Job Title: Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Laboratory Technician

(Title varies based on certification)

Job Summary

Conducts routine and complex laboratory tests used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Performs related tasks in accordance with established protocols and laboratory standards. Assumes responsibility for troubleshooting, quality control systems, and training new staff as needed.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree required

(or equivalent experience as recognized by the certifying entity)

Not required for Medical Technologists certified by Health & Human Services prior to 1987.

Minimum Work Experience

No prior experience required.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Completion of a formal training program in an approved MT, MLS, or MLT program.

Must hold current registration or certification as one of the following (or equivalent):

MT (ASCP) Medical Technologist

MLS (ASCP) Medical Laboratory Scientist

MLT (ASCP) Medical Laboratory Technician

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Ability to:

Compile and analyze statistical data.

Enter data accurately into laboratory information systems.

Maintain proper logs and documentation.

Operate CRT terminals and diagnostic lab equipment effectively.
