Lifeguard
This is a part-time seasonal position and is scheduled to work less than 30 hours per week during the spring and summer, and less than 1000 hours per fiscal year and less than 30 hours per week. Position is responsible for constant observance of various age groups for swimming in the pool; to control the public in the use of the pool facilities; to administer lifesaving techniques and first aid in case of accidents or emergencies around pool areas; to call for additional assistance immediately when necessary. Responsible for keeping the restrooms and pool area clean according to health regulations. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood "I SERVE" Core Values.Examples of duties include constantly observing participants in the pool, ensuring water safety and enforcing all safety rules in and out of the water, keeping all areas of the pool and restroom areas clean, administering first aid and responding immediately to call for assistance in case of accidents or emergencies in and around the pool area and the premises, taking regular interval readings of chlorine and PH levels and checking necessary equipment for sanitation of pools, mowing, weed-eating, and raking lawn, attending weekly in service Lifeguard training, and performing other duties as assigned by Head Lifeguard or Recreation Aquatics Supervisor.Typical qualifications include a current driver license, Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid Certification and Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification (training may be provided), WSI Certification preferred, enough education to read, write, and effectively communicate, knowledge of lifesaving techniques, swimming skills, basic first aid procedures, handling chemicals for swimming pools, good communication skills, tactfulness, and discretion with other lifeguards and the general public. Outdoors: exposed to sun and water the majority of the time. Work is pleasant most of the time. Ability to sit and stand. Employee will be exposed to seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and be exposed to mechanical and chemical hazards. Ability to lift materials weighing up to 30 pounds frequently and 50-100 pounds occasionally and be able to drag up to 80 pounds occasionally. Ability to bend, stoop, walk, push brooms and sweep. Ability to operate a lawn mower and weed-eater. Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain. Work involves getting dirty and wet and cutting grass. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, and odors. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with the public. Ability to understand verbal and written communication.
