Software Developer - Expert, New York

Provide a short description of the Position: The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) Division of Epidemiology’s Bureau of Surveillance and Data Systems is charged to maintain and enhance the statewide Communicable Disease Electronic Surveillance System (CDESS). This is a mission critical electronic system to effectively monitor and respond to over 75 reportable diseases and to other public health emergencies and inform statewide policy decisions.

Provide a list of the day-to-day tasks to be performed by the Selected Candidate: • Program in the full range of Java EE web technologies, configure and support files required for the development of CDESS surveillance system focusing on Hepatitis and STD related modules. • Participate in system design meetings, implement user requirements in the form of business rules, use cases and web page mockups. • Perform unit and regression testing scripts. • Provide system technical documentation. • Design data logic and physical models. • Gather data migration rules and perform data migration. • Manage tasks assigned to programmers within the project team.
