Senior Accountant, Alexandria, VA

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Senior Accountant in Alexandria, VA. Overview: The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting core accounting functions within a banking environment, including general ledger accounting, regulatory reporting support, and month end close activities. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with banking regulations and GAAP. The ideal candidate brings a strong accounting foundation, attention to detail, and experience working in a regulated financial services environment. Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
• Maintain ownership of assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts, including cash, loans, deposits, and interest related accounts
• Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial records
• Assist in the preparation of internal financial statements and management reporting
• Support regulatory and external reporting requirements, including reports used for Call Reports and other regulatory filings
• Partner with finance, lending, operations, and compliance teams to ensure proper accounting treatment and documentation
• Support internal and external audits, regulatory exams, and reviews by preparing schedules and responding to inquiries
• Monitor and support compliance with GAAP, banking regulations, and internal accounting policies
• Identify control gaps, operational risks, and opportunities to improve accounting processes and documentation
• Assist with implementation or enhancement of accounting systems and banking platforms
• Mentor and review work of junior accounting staff as needed
• 5+ years of overall accounting experience; 3 years in a Senior Accountant role (must be most recent title)
• Banking experience is not required
• Excel - only formulas
• Large ERP System experience (no QuickBooks)
