The Opportunity

As a Die Maker, you will play a critical role in supporting die cutting operations by assembling steel rule dies and ensuring all tooling meets production requirements. In this role, you will work closely with production, structural design, and warehouse teams to build, maintain, and troubleshoot dies used in the manufacturing process. A typical day includes assembling dies, reviewing job schedules, coordinating tooling needs, and ensuring accuracy and quality standards are met, while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock

Assemble steel rule dies (knife, crease rule, and rubber) into boards for die cutting equipment.

Maintain computer software systems and AutoCAD, including upgrades and troubleshooting.

Stay current on technical procedures, hardware, and software updates.

Coordinate with cross-functional teams to support production efficiency.

Organize andmaintaindie inventory within the warehouse.

Assign warehouse locations and track all new dies.

Enter die layout data into the Pecas database accurately.

Prepare detailed production layout drawings that meet manufacturing standards.

Inspect incoming die boards for accuracy and quality.

Review daily production schedules to ensure die availability.

Coordinate die requirements with the Structural Design Department.

Verify dies against job samples to meet customer specifications.

Troubleshoot and resolve die issues during press operations.

Pull repeat dies from inventory and return them after runs are completed.

Maintain inventory of materials and requisition supplies as needed.

Train and provide guidance to Die Making Helpers.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Conduct annual inventory reviews and remove obsolete dies.

What you need to succeed

Minimum of two years of experience assembling dies in the printing or packaging industry.

Proficiencyoperatingand maintaining shop equipment such as jig saws.

Ability to read, write, and interpret instructions, safety rules, and procedure manuals.

Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.

Basic computer skills, including email and word processing.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Reliable attendance and dependability.

Willingness to work overtime asrequiredduring peak periods.

Ability to perform all essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
