RESPONSIBILITIES Language Interpretation Provideaccurateinterpretationduringmedicalencountersusingconsecutive,simultaneous,andsighttranslationtechniques. Deliverinterpretationservicesviain-person,telephone,orvideoremoteinterpretationplatformswhenneeded. Supportcommunicationinavarietyofclinicalenvironmentsincludingsurgery,trauma,mentalhealth,palliativecare,anddischargeplanning. Cultural Mediation Serveasaculturalliaisontobridgecommunicationgapsbetweenpatientsandhealthcareteams. Assistprovidersinunderstandingculturalconsiderationsthatmayimpactcaredeliveryorpatientdecision-making. Documentation&Compliance Maintainaccuraterecordsofinterpretationencountersincludingencountertype,duration,andservicelocation. EnsurestrictadherencetoHIPAAregulations,theNationalCodeofEthicsforInterpretersinHealthCare,andEmoryHealthcarepolicies. Professional Development&Mentorship Participateincontinuingeducation,competencyvalidation,anddepartmentalqualityimprovementinitiatives. Mentornewlyhiredinterpretersandparticipateinpeerreviewprocesses. Provideeducationandtrainingtostaffregardinglanguageaccesscomplianceandinterpreterserviceprotocols. Operational Support Assistwithinterpreterschedulinganddispatchactivitiesduringlow-volumeperiods. Supportthedeployment,maintenance,andtroubleshootingofinterpretationequipmentincludingphones,tablets,andvideoremoteinterpretation (VRI)units. Patient&Family Support Providepatientandfamilysupportbyfacilitatingcommunicationandnavigationofcareservices. Connectpatientsandfamilieswithhospitalorcommunityresourcesasappropriate. Participateinon-callorafter-hourscoverageasrequired. Travel TravelmayberequiredbetweenEmoryHealthcareoperatingunitsoraffiliatedlocations. Certification Completionofa 40 60 hour Medical Interpreter Training Program suchas: BridgingtheGap ALTA LanguageLineAcademy Orequivalentprogram Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities ( Required) DemonstratedproficiencyinEnglishandthetargetlanguage (
reading,writing,andspeaking). Strongknowledgeofmedicalterminologyinbothlanguages. Interpreterproficiencyvalidatedthrougha third party Interpreter Skills Test ( IST) . Abilitytocommunicateclearlyandprofessionallyincomplexhealthcareenvironments. Preferred Qualifications Education Associate'sDegreeinBusiness,ForeignLanguage,HealthcareAdministration,orrelatedfield. Experience Four (4)yearsofmedicalinterpretationexperiencepreferred. Experiencedeliveringinterpretertrainingoreducationalsessions. Certification Certified Medical Interpreter ( CMI) -NationalBoardofCertificationforMedicalInterpreters (NBCMI) Certified Healthcare Interpreter ( CHI) -CertificationCommissionforHealthcareInterpreters (CCHI) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities ( Preferred) Advancedknowledgeofmedicalterminology.
