Signed first printing of this work that traces the career of the modernist architect George Howe, a hugely influential designer and early popularizer of the International style - by award-winning architect Robert A. M. Stern. George Howe's career spanned a time of great architectural change and upheaval, from the Arts and Crafts movement to the modernism of post-WWII. He occupied a central place in what would become the Philadelphia School of architects, and continued to propagate architectural knowledge as the chairman of Yale's Department of Architecture in the late 1940s and '50s. This volume was written by a young Robert A. M. Smith, who would go on to be Dean of the same department. Scarce signed. 10'' x 7.25''. Original blue cloth boards.
