divh2Machinist/h2pIndependent Can Co Belcamp - Belcamp, MD 21017/ph3Overview/h3pSalary Range $30.00 - $41.17 Hourly Job Shift 1st/ph3Description/h3pSUMMARY: The Machinist will set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision tool and die parts for a multitude of projects and equipment throughout the plant. Machine tools include but are not limited to Mills and Lathes (Manual and CNC), Surface Grinders, Drill Presses, Band Saws, etc. Must be the site leader in living and driving the Company Core Values and High-Performance Work Culture./ppESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:/pulliPerform all machine shop operations such as, but not limited to, lathe work, drilling, grinding, milling, shaping and hand tool work/liliRepair and overhaul of manufacturing equipment in all manufacturing departments/liliDesign and build manufacturing systems and equipment as needed/liliSet up procedures to conform finished tooling to desired specifications/liliDevelop specifications from general descriptions and draw sketches of parts or products/liliAssist Tooling Engineer and Engineering Manager in the development of new tooling, new systems, and new production machines/liliAssist in designing dies and line tooling for new and existing products/liliAssist in the maintenance and up-keep of all machine shop equipment, as well as make recommendations to management for replacement or upgrade of shop equipment/liliAssist in the training of other personnel in the machine shop/liliStay up to date on current machining and production technologies and recommend these technologies to management/liliContribute in establishing safe use of machinery in the machine shop and throughout the plant/liliOperate all machine shop equipment to fabricate assigned projects and parts/liliAssist in trouble-shooting equipment in plant and for customers/liliInstall new equipment throughout the plant: including adjustments, repairs and operator/mechanical training/liliCheck the quality of products and take steps to correct any problems/liliAssist the slitting, press room and can line departments in set-up, repair machinery as needed, and sharpening of tooling/liliUtilize precision measuring devices, such as micrometers, calipers, and indicators as required/liliProduce machine parts to within two-ten thousandths of an inch/liliCalculate, through mathematics, the proper equipment that is required for a project, such as gears, pulleys, belts, air lines, etc./liliAdditional duties could include welding, brazing, plumbing, and carpentry/liliAll other duties as assigned/li/ulh3Qualifications/h3pQUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. They can fabricate dies and tooling, set-up, adjust, repair, operate, and maintain equipment/liliAble to study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished work piece to assure the needs of production and customers/liliEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); three to six months related experience and/or training with completion of 8,000 hours Machinist Apprenticeship training to attain Journeyman Machinist papers as required by company or similar training as received elsewhere; or equivalent combination of education and experience./liliLANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, write, and comprehend technical instructions, drawings, and manuals. Ability to read and write short correspondence and memos in English. Have the ability to analyze technical procedures. This position also requires the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations./liliMATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must have the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs./liliREASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems by collecting data to establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form./liliCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Journeyman Machinist certifications./liliPHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel crouch, or crawl; and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus./liliWORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, heat, electrical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and vibrations.
