J*ob Summary*
The successful candidate will need to be competent with the XKL DarkStar family of products. This
includes the hardware, software, management, and configuration of systems and topologies. This person
will be responsible for evaluating customer topologies in order to create a DarkStar bill of materials that
satisfies the requirements of the customer. This may be an iterative process, requiring back?and?forth
with the customer. This position will require you to create topology drawings in response to these
discussions and be able to communicate these solutions with the XKL Sales team and the customer.
As a Technical Sales Engineer, you will be working directly with customers, XKL Sales, and Senior Sales
Engineers. You will work closely with XKL?s Chief Systems Architect to optimize designs to meet
customer demands. Periodic updates to job knowledge, leveraging educational opportunities and
professional publications, is expected. Keeping abreast of competitor solutions is also expected.
Primary Duties

• Design customer solutions based on XKL?s optical networking products
• Produce network design proposals: specify bill of materials, design and document topology

diagrams, and specify network descriptions

• Assess customer requirements and design networks that meet or exceed those requirements

Required Qualifications

• A Bachelor?s Degree or equivalent experience
• Networking knowledge, network design and implementation, network hardware configuration
• Familiarity with networking equipment: switches, routers, and servers, from major vendors
• Good communication skills
• Good written and interpersonal skills

Desired Skills

• Expertise with routing and switching hardware from major vendors
• Knowledge and hands?on experience with network operating systems
• Understanding of the OSI and TCP/IP models
• Experience with layer 1 and 2 network architecture a plus
• An understanding of networking protocols such as TCP, UDP, DHCP, DNS
• IP networking fundamentals
• Networking analysis fundamentals
