Studio Theatre Part-Time Technicians and Production Staff
Studio Theatre regularly hires part-time technicians and production staff to support our shows throughout the season. If you have experience in theatrical production and are interested in on-call or project-based work, we invite you to submit your résumé for consideration. By applying through this general posting, you'll be considered for a range of backstage and technical positions, including roles in lighting, sound, carpentry, paint, props, and stage management.Please Note: We do not accept unsolicited design materials, portfolios, or creative concepts. This application is intended only for part-time production and technical crew positions. We have found that the best way to engage designers is through established professional relationships and direct solicitation by our artistic leadership. Any design materials submitted through this portal will not be considered and will not be returned.Listed below are job descriptions for Studio production roles. All roles require the following core competencies: Problem Solving: The ability to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to report problems for additional help. Communication: The ability to communicate transparently and effectively across mediums with an emphasis on interpersonal communication.Relationship Management: Excellent social skills with an emphasis on building and maintaining meaningful and reciprocal internal and external and conflict resolution relationships. Reports to: Assistant Production Manager Key Responsibilities: Support the backstage needs of the show Work through the tech process to learn backstage track Uphold safe practices and maintain a safe working environment Skills&Qualifications: Execute duties and projects as assigned Skills in Stage Management, Wardrobe, and/or Scenic Shifts a plus Professional theatre or equivalent academic experience a plus Ability to lift and maneuver 50 lbs repeatedly, alone or with assistance Ability to crouch, twist, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, stand and sit for extended periods of time, reach above, below and at neck level, work at heights above the floorCarpenter
Reports to: Technical Director Key Responsibilities: Construction, installation, and repair (if necessary) of scenic elements for all productions Load-in and strike of scenery Uphold safe practices and maintain a safe working environment Skills&Qualifications: Execute duties and projects as assigned Skills in wood construction, metalworking and rigging Hydraulic, pneumatic or automation experience a plus Professional theatre or equivalent academic experience a plus Ability to lift and maneuver 50 lbs repeatedly, alone or with assistanceAbility to crouch, twist, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, stand and sit for extended periods of time, reach above, below and at neck level, work at heights above the floor Scenic Painter
Reports to: Technical Director Key Responsibilities: Prep, base, and detail paint scenic elements Fill Scenic Seams and blemishes Seal and prep stage flooring for use Skills&Qualifications: Execute duties and projects as assigned Skills in scenic painting, texturing, and distressing. Color matching a plus Professional theatre or equivalent academic experience a plus Ability to lift and maneuver 50 lbs repeatedly, alone or with assistance Ability to crouch, twist, bend, stoop, climb stairs and ladders, stand and sit for extended periods of time, reach above, below and at neck level, work at heights above the floorStitcher
Reports to: Costume Shop Manager Key Responsibilities: Assist costume department in fitting, stitching, or other assigned costume duties Maintain and alter costumes as assigned Assist with inventory and maintenance of workroom supplies and equipment, as time permits Uphold safe practices and maintain a safe working environmentSkills&Qualifications: Experience in machine and hand sewing techniques Experience in dressmaking, tailoring and/or cutting skills Proficiency in commercial and industrial sewing machine operation Excellent garment construction skills Experience in a professional costume shop a plus Openness to learning new techniquesElectrician and Light Board Operator
Reports to: Lighting and Sound Supervisor Key Responsibilities: Hang and focus lighting elements for productions Serve as light board operator (EOS Family Consoles) for performances Uphold safe practices and maintain a safe working environment Skills&Qualifications: Proficiency with ETC Eos Family of consoles, data, DMX devices and moving lights a plus Ability to read and interpret light plots and other relevant paperwork a plus Comfort working at heights such as on catwalks, ladders and lifts Audio Engineers/Sound Board Ops and Microphone Technicians
Reports to: Lighting and Sound Supervisor Key Responsibilities: Assist Lighting and Sound Supervisor with implementation of audio requirements for all productions, events, and rentals Maintenance of department inventory Serve as sound board operator for performances (as needed) Uphold safe practices and maintain a safe working environmentSkills&Qualifications: Ability to patch, troubleshoot, and run sound systems Familiarity with large format digital (preferably Yamaha) and analog consoles Live mixing experience with musicals as well as musical acts Proficiency with programming QLab, digital networking, Dante interface systems, and MIDIUnderstanding of theatrical rigging of loudspeakers Knowledge of recording techniques and recording platforms Proficiency with soldering, basic electronic repairs, cable building, and simple woodworking Video Engineer and Board Operators
Reports to: Lighting and Sound Supervisor Key Responsibilities: Projections in productions– interfacing with the designer about needs, installing and supporting the projection system, possible programming of system during tech, and possible running of the system for performances Rentals and Events – working closely with the Rentals Department to set up and support any video needs for rentals and events in the buildingOther duties include regular maintenance of gear, inventory, and maintaining proper storage of all the Multimedia equipment Uphold safe practices and maintain a safe working environment Skills&Qualifications: Execute duties and projects as assigned Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with diverse range of collaborators Working knowledge of Isadora and Watchout platforms, Photoshop and video editing software, network infrastructure and theatrical rigging a plusDrive to understand new technologies and how to integrate them into theatre Events engineering or theatrical experience a plus
