Educational Interpreter

This person works with students, teachers and other building staff members to assist in the delivery of the educational program. Required qualifications include completion of an Interpreter Training Program and a license from the State of Iowa. Desirable qualifications include experience interpreting in the school setting and experience working with children.Position responsibilities include facilitating all communication in a variety of environments, participating as a member of the educational team, advocating for the student in the school setting, participating in student educational-related activities when needed, collaborating with educational staff, communicating with the student's teacher(s) and support service providers, providing input and feedback to supervising teacher as requested, supporting guided practice or monitoring the educational program as directed, assisting with provisions of accommodations for students, meeting the daily care student needs, maintaining accurate records, assisting teacher in computer entry of data and the application of technology, maintaining effective discipline based on the policies and guidelines of the District, explaining the role of an educational interpreter, abiding by and supporting the IEP document and related recommendations, following directions of the building administrator(s) and teachers, attending all appropriate meetings, demonstrating an interest in self improvement in interpreting by attending appropriate workshops, seminars, and staff development sessions when available, demonstrating professionalism in the workplace and in the community, exercising maturity and sound judgment in making decisions, maintaining confidentiality, recognizing and demonstrating a commitment to multicultural nonsexist policies and practices, and performing other duties as assigned.
