Job Description

This role focuses on manufacturing and fabricating a variety of steel products used in commercial and industrial construction projects. You will perform MIG welding on structural steel beams, fabricate and assemble parts, and ensure all welds meet quality and safety standards. The position involves working with heavy materials, operating industrial equipment, and reading blueprints to produce accurate and reliable structural components.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG welding on structural steel beams with thicknesses ranging from 1 to 2 inches on various types of materials.
  • Fabricate steel parts and assemble beams according to blueprints and schematics.
  • Operate overhead cranes as needed to move and position heavy materials and beams safely.
  • Use hand tools to grind and finish welds, ensuring a clean and structurally sound final product.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and measurements to complete projects accurately.
  • Operate forklifts to transport materials and finished products within the production area and yard.
  • Conduct visual inspections of all products to verify weld quality and confirm welds are laid correctly.
  • Lift materials and components weighing up to 70 pounds as needed throughout the shift.
  • Support general production and yard work tasks to maintain workflow and meet production goals.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of MIG welding experience.
  • At least 1 year of structural steel welding experience within those 5 years.
  • Proficiency in structural welding, including MIG welding on beams and heavy steel components.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Experience using measuring tapes and other measuring tools accurately.
  • Hands-on experience with structural welds, fabrication, and production work.
  • Capability to lift up to 70 pounds safely and repeatedly.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes and forklifts or willingness to learn.
  • Strong attention to detail for visual inspection of welds and finished products.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in general production and yard work in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Experience in fabrication of structural steel products for commercial or industrial construction.
  • Comfort using hand tools for grinding and finishing welds.
  • Ability to work effectively on a second shift schedule, including occasional overtime and weekends.
  • Reliability and consistency in following safety procedures and production guidelines.

Work Environment

This is a second shift position, typically working Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., with frequent Friday shifts starting at 3:00 p.m. until work is completed and possible Saturday work as needed. The role includes a shift differential for second shift. You will work primarily in the production area and may be in or near the paint area where bay doors open and close frequently, exposing the workspace to outdoor conditions. The majority of the time you will work outside, so you must dress appropriately for the weather and elements. Steel-toe footwear and pants are required, and a long-sleeve shirt is recommended. The environment involves operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and other industrial equipment, handling heavy steel materials, and working around active production processes.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Billings, MT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $31.00/hr.
