Job Title: Mainframe Certificate Administrator (Junior – Mid Level)

Location: Birmingham, AL | Atlanta, GA | Nashville, TN | Charlotte, NC

Salary Range: $90,000 – $120,000 (DOE)

Employment Type: Full-Time | Hybrid/Flexible Onsite – Mostly Remote with some on-site

Position Summary:

We are seeking a junior-mid level Mainframe Certificate Administrator to support the full lifecycle of digital certificate management within our z/OS environment. This role will work across infrastructure, security, and application teams to ensure secure communication through effective certificate governance. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with foundational mainframe or infrastructure knowledge who's ready to deepen their expertise in cybersecurity and enterprise certificate management.

Key Responsibilities:

Certificate Lifecycle Management: Create, renew, revoke, and manage certificates for users, systems, and applications.

RACF Integration: Coordinate with the RACF security team for certificate installations and updates.

Application Integration: Work with application owners to install and maintain secure certificates.

SSL/TLS Configuration: Configure secure communication channels, including truststores, keyrings, and AT-TLS settings.

Certificate Auditing: Track certificate usage for security analysis and compliance readiness.

Security Policy Implementation: Ensure alignment with organizational security policies and cryptographic best practices.

Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve certificate-related or SSL/TLS connectivity issues.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

Basic understanding of Certificate Authority (CA) operations, certificate signing, and revocation.

Familiarity with RACF Administration, including RACDCERT commands and security profiles.

Working knowledge of SSL/TLS protocols, cipher suites, and secure session creation (e.g., AT-TLS).

Exposure to cryptographic concepts such as keys, signing algorithms, and digital certificates.

z/OS System Administration fundamentals and experience with ISPF and JCL/batch processing.

Understanding of z/OSMF and its use in certificate management.

Candidate Requirements:

3-5 years of IT infrastructure, systems administration, or mainframe experience

Ability to work hybrid from Birmingham, AL; Atlanta, GA; Nashville, TN; or Charlotte, NC.

Strong interpersonal and coordination skills with cross-functional teams.
