Sleep Lab Clerk
The Sleep Lab Insurance&Registration Clerk is responsible for coordinating patient registration, insurance verification, and scheduling processes for sleep lab procedures. This role obtains preauthorizations, verifies insurance coverage and benefits, and completes patient pre-registration prior to appointments. The clerk ensures all required documentation and physician orders are accurately included in the patient chart, contacts patients to confirm appointments and provide procedural instructions, and prepares necessary information for overnight sleep technologists. Additional responsibilities include scheduling and rescheduling patient testing appointments and providing support to the sleep lab or sleep clinic as needed.Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Maintain current CPR or BLS certification Minimum Work Experience: One year of direct patient care or customer service related work Physical Requirements: Sitting - 16-31% Walking - 16-31% Standing - 16-31% Bending/Squatting - 1-15% Climbing/Kneeling - 1-15%Twisting - 1-15% OSHA Category: Minimal potential for direct body fluid exposure Visual and Hearing Requirements: Must be able to hear clearly with assistance. Must be able to see with corrective eyewear. Color vision ability required. Other Physical/Environmental Demands: Lifting - 0-50lbs, 50lbs or more with assistance. Carrying - 0-50lbs, 50lbs or more with assistance. Pulling - up to 100lbs. Pushing - up to 100lbs.Leadership Capabilities: Supports the hospital Mission, Service and Values. Essential Functions: Communicate with Sleep Center Coordinator and Medical Director Remove and clean patient electrodes used during Polysomnography. Remove soiled linens and prepare room for further testing. Create new patient records and maintain existing recordsAccurately and completely input patient information into the sleep system database Perform insurance verification and obtain prior authorizations when required for sleep procedures. Distribute test interpretations in a timely manner. Assist with patient follow up. Addressing and mailing envelopesAnswer phones. Communication with patients to confirm office visits and Sleep Studies Schedule sleep consultation and sleep study appointments Prepares charts for sleep clinic appointments, communicating with both scheduling and registration. Ensure patient's right to privacy, safety and confidentiality is maintained.Demonstrate ability to follow directions Demonstrate effective written and spoken communication skills Demonstrate appropriate social skills. Ability to manage stress and resolve conflict through discussion and problem solving Attend scheduled in-services and staff meetings Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issuesActively seeks out work projects and assists others Scans paper charts to convert to electronic medical records Understands and applies the mechanics of medical charting Prepares charts for clinic and Sleep Studies-Organizes material in predetermined format-reviews chart for completeness prior to patient arrivalOther duties as assigned.
