Job Description
The Director, Cloud Practice is a senior leadership role within our Cloud Center of Excellence, responsible for shaping and scaling our cloud capabilities in support of federal agency clients.
This individual serves as the technical and strategic anchor for cloud, driving mission-aligned delivery, building a high-performing engineering team, and positioning the company as a trusted, innovative partner across the federal landscape.
The role demands equal strength in technical depth, client engagement, people leadership, and external presence.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Practice Growth
Serve as a key technical contributor to federal proposals, sourcessought, and competitive responses, articulating cloud architecture approaches, relevant past performance, and solution differentiators
Lead and participate in technical demonstrations, proof-of-concepts, and capability showcases for federal clients and prospects
Develop authoritative content, white papers, capability statements, and reference architectures, that establish the practice's credibility in the federal cloud market
Cultivate and manage relationships with AWS and strategic technology partners, aligning partner capabilities to federal mission requirements and contract vehicles
Define certification and skills roadmaps that strengthen the practice's ability to compete on technically complex federal opportunities
Identify and pursue innovation initiatives that align cloud-native capabilities with emerging federal priorities such as zero trust, cloud migration mandates, and AI modernization
Federal Program Delivery
Provide cloud architecture leadership and hands-on technical oversight across active federal programs, ensuring quality delivery, compliance adherence, and SLA performance
Drive the adoption of modern, AI-assisted engineering practices within delivery teams to accelerate outcomes and improve quality
Partner with Program Managers and Delivery Leadership to ensure cloud resources are aligned to program needs, staffing is proactively managed, and client expectations are consistently met
Build and maintain reusable delivery accelerators, infrastructure-as-code templates, and reference architectures tailored to federal compliance environments
Lead client-facing technical communication and cloud adoption enablement for federal agency stakeholders, translating complex cloud concepts into mission-relevant terms
Develop and deliver internal training programs that grow the cloud delivery capacity of the broader team and reduce dependency on specialized resources
People & Team Leadership
Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team of cloud engineers and architects aligned to federal mission work
Foster a team culture grounded in accountability, continuous learning, and mission focus, consistent with the values and expectations of federal clients
Conduct regular one-on-one coaching and career development conversations, connecting individual growth to practice and company goals
Champion AI fluency across the team, helping engineers understand and apply AI-assisted tools in their day-to-day federal delivery work
Guide team members in pursuing relevant certifications and professional development that keep the practice technically current and competitively positioned
Thought Leadership & External Presence
Maintain and articulate a clear, informed perspective on what constitutes modern, proactive practice that can accelerate innovation and velocity
Represent the company at federal cybersecurity conferences, industry forums, and community events through speaking engagements, panels, and expert roundtables
Publish authoritative content, white papers, technical blog posts, and practitioner perspectives, that reflect the company's cloud expertise and point of view within the federal market
Build a credible, visible personal brand on professional platforms that positions both the individual and the company as trusted voices in Cloud infrastructure and operations
Required Qualifications
10+ years of progressive experience in cloud engineering, architecture, or platform leadership roles
5+ years in a senior technical leadership capacity, practice lead, principal architect, or equivalent
Deep, hands-on expertise with AWS across core use cases, including compute, networking, storage, AI/ML, identity and access management, and managed services
Hands-on Kubernetes experience in production environments, including cluster operations, workload orchestration, Helm chart management, and cloud-native patterns, EKS experience strongly preferred
Direct experience working on or supporting federal government programs, understanding of federal procurement, program delivery structures
Proven ability to contribute to federal proposals and business development efforts, including RFI/RFP responses and oral presentations
Excellent communication skills, fluent across technical teams, program leadership, and federal agency stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional
Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or equivalent demonstrated Kubernetes expertise
Hands-on experience in FedRAMP, FISMA, or DoD IL compliant cloud environments
Familiarity with federal cloud modernization initiatives like Zero Trust Architecture
Experience with AI/ML workloads on AWS federal infrastructure
Prior experience in a federal IT services or systems integrator environment
Visible presence in the federal cloud community, publications, conference participation, or professional community engagement
