Manual Machinist, Milford, CT

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Manual Machinist to join our production team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up and operating manual machine shop equipment—specifically Bridgeport milling machines and manual lathes—to fabricate precision parts, custom tooling, and prototypes based on engineering drawings and blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Set up and safely operate manual machinery, including Bridgeports, mills, lathes, surface grinders, band saws, and drill presses.
• Interpret mechanical blueprints, engineering drawings, and job specifications to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequences.
• Machine a variety of materials (aluminum, steel, plastics, copper) to tight tolerances (+/- .001 or better) for custom tooling and machine components.
• Perform self-inspections of parts using standard measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges) to ensure adherence to quality standards.
• Determine the appropriate cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and fixtures required for each specific job.
• Work closely with the engineering and assembly teams to troubleshoot manufacturing challenges and ensure project deadlines are met.
