Lifeguard (Part Time)
Salary Range $13.00 - $15.00 Hourly Position Overview
This position maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool area and facility. They create a safe and positive environment that promotes member safety, engagement and customer service. Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
Monitor activities in and around the water through member surveillance. Prevent injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. Enforcing facility rules and regulations and educating members about them. Recognizing and responding quickly and effectively to all emergencies.Administer first aid and CPR, use an AED in an emergency and, if trained, administer emergency oxygen when necessary. Work as a team with other lifeguards, facility staff, and management. Demonstrate positive attitude and actions through a display of courtesy, sensitivity, and professionalism to internal and external customers.Ensure all proper chemical and temperature readings are taken as scheduled and properly logged. Maintain program attendance log. Adjust pool temperature and chemicals to proper levels so as to maintain a safe and healthy environment for the clients, if trained to do so. Report any and all maintenance problems to the supervisor promptly.Document and report all accidents and ensure appropriate documentation is turned into supervisor immediately. Be on time, focused, professional, and appropriately dressed for assignment. Be available to work evenings, weekends, early mornings, and some holidays. Ensure a safe, clean, and organized pool environment for all swimmers at all times.Perform shift duties as assigned. Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities: Ability to perform water rescue skills, CPR, and First Aid procedures in an emergency situation. Hold or obtain current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification. Hold or obtain current American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certification. Must be able to work with minimal supervision and use good judgement. Ability to work in a team environment and to act independently.Education and Experience: Be able to pass prequalification skills as scheduled. Customer service experience preferred. Experience working as a lifeguard, teaching swim lessons, and performing pool management, or any equivalent demonstration of training or experience. Physical Requirements: Position requires sitting or standing to a significant degree (sitting 2/3 of the time; standing 1/3 of the time). Use hands to finger, handle or feel over 2/3 of time. Reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, may be required under 2/3 of the time. The employee will work in a swimming pool area which has an air temperature of 80 degrees and the water is 82 degrees. Will occasionally lift, carry, and otherwise move and position objects weighing at least 20 to 25 lbs. with infrequent requirements to lift at least 50 pounds.Required competencies and expectations: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following mission centered competencies as they relate to YWCA Tulsa core values: Community, Advocacy, Respect, Empowerment, Equity and Inclusion, Excellence.
