Job Title
Police Officer
Qualifications
Proof of high school graduation or certified GED required.
Must possess a current Texas Peace Officer Intermediate Certificate issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE); Texas Peace Officer Advanced Certificate preferred.
Must have at least five (5) years of law enforcement experience; previous supervisory experience preferred.
Consideration will not be given to a TCOLE license or license from another state with a General Discharge, Dishonorable Discharge or the equivalent notation from previous law enforcement jobs.
Valid Texas driver's license with acceptable driver's record.
Ability to work effectively with youth as well as adults.
Must be able to work day, evening, or night shift with days off as assigned.
Must show negative on a drug and/or alcohol test to be given on a pre-employment, random, post-accident and/or reasonable suspicion basis, in accordance with federal law and District policy.

Candidates who have previously scored 70% or above on the Written Exam or Ergometrics may use their previous passing score or choose to re-test.

Essential Functions
Provide day to day direction to the Police Department.
Provide direct supervision to Police Department employees.
Evaluate the performance of Police Department employees.
Review daily work schedules for police officers to ensure maximum campus and District coverage with existing manpower.
Assist with the interviews, recommendations, training, supervision and evaluation of members of the Police Department.
Coordinate annual in-service training and firearms qualifications for police officers.
Coordinate the work of the Police Department with building principals, other departments and District administrators.
Provide immediate response to crisis situations when called by principals.
Assist building administrators with individual campus security planning.
Assist principals, other departments and administrators with security management and operational procedures for crisis situations.
Secure police officers for special events when requested.
Assign officers to provide traffic control in school zones and at District events.
Assist in developing and maintaining a comprehensive District plan for the protection of students, staff and facilities.
Coordinate work of the District alarm system provider resolving problems and making recommendations for improved services.
Investigate the use of deterrent devices and systems to ensure safety in the schools.
Assist in maintaining a District-wide Crisis Management plan.
Provide personal protection, campus safety and crime prevention in-service for District staff, students and parents.
Maintain plan to increase effectiveness of deterrence activities.
Participate in community task force groups to gather and share information.
Produce and distribute periodic reports of Police Department activities and services provided.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

Tools/Equipment Used: district vehicle, firearms, handcuffs, two-way radio, alarm system and other security equipment, fire extinguisher, and standard office equipment including computer and peripherals.
Posture: prolonged sitting and standing.
Motion: strenuous walking and climbing; frequent keyboarding/mouse, prolonged driving.
Lifting: moderate lifting and carrying ****** pounds) ***** pounds frequently; ****** pounds occasionally.

Mental Demands: maintain emotional control under stress; prolonged hours; ability to work shifts including rotating shifts/days off; may be on call 24 hours per day.
