FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Bronx Community College seeks dynamic, student-centered adjunct faculty to teach FYS 11: First Year Seminar, a foundational course designed to orient first-semester students to college expectations while fostering academic confidence, personal growth, and long-term career readiness. FYS 11 introduces students to BCC's four pillars of first-year success Mindset for Success, Academic Success, Financial Literacy, and Career&Transfer Readiness and is supported by embedded peer mentors who lead integrated iFYS sessions to strengthen skill-building and community connection. FYS 11 faculty members therefore serve as crucial "front-door educators," guiding students as they learn to navigate BCC, access resources, build academic habits, and develop early career clarity. This role is central not only to BCC's first-year success mission but also to CUNY's broader effort to ensure that every undergraduate progresses from college to meaningful career opportunities with knowledge, confidence, and direction.

Performs teaching and related duties in area(s) of expertise.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:• Bachelor's degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required is the ability to teach successfully. • Demonstrated ability to teach and support first-year or at-risk college student populations. • Commitment to student-centered, inclusive, and culturally responsive pedagogy.

Preferred Qualifications:• Master's degree in any discipline in the liberal arts, social sciences, education, counseling, student success, or a related field. • Experience working in learning communities, advisement, student affairs, or first-year programs. • Familiarity with growth mindset pedagogy, academic skillsdevelopment, financial literacy, and/or career readiness frameworks such as NACE competencies (as integrated into the FYS-11 curriculum).• Ability to collaborate with peer mentors and academic support units.

COMPENSATION

Adjunct Lecturer: $112.50 per hour
