FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
CLIP is an intensive English language program for students who have been accepted to CUNY and who need to increase their academic English language proficiency in preparation for college classes. CLIP uses a sustained content-based approach with coursework centered on a theme and core texts. Instruction is designed to increase students' English language skills as they broaden their overall background knowledge in topics that will prepare them for general education courses at CUNY. Classes meet 25 hours a week in day and evening sessions.
CLIP is operated collaboratively by the CUNY Office of Academic Affairs, and nine participating CUNY colleges: Borough of Manhattan Community College, Bronx Community College, College of Staten Island, Hostos Community College, Kingsborough Community College, LaGuardia Community College, New York City College of Technology, Queensborough Community College, and York College. The anticipated vacancy to be filled with this search is located at Queensborough Community College starting in the fall 2026 semester. However, CLIP Instructors can be assigned to teach at any of the participating colleges in order to meet program needs.
Persons employed in the title of CLIP Instructor shall be assigned to teach and perform related functions as part of the CUNY Language Immersion Program. CLIP Instructors are full-time, non-tenure track positions subject to annual reappointments. Please refer to Appendix D ("CUNY Start and CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) Instructors") of the PSC-CUNY agreement for information regarding terms and conditions of employment.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Provide 25 hours of weekly instruction in the four domains: academic reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Instructors may fulfill a portion of these duties synchronously or asynchronously, as assigned.
Integrate instruction in level-appropriate academic content in a sustained content-based curriculum.
Integrate instruction in level-appropriate academic content in a sustained content-based curriculum.
Provide timely feedback and continuous assessment while maintaining accurate student records throughout the semester.
Participate in CLIP-related training, mandatory program days, and instruction-related program support activities, such as scoring program-wide exams and class placement.
Collaborate in activities with other staff members that foster continuous program improvement and development and present a cohesive educational approach.
Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
Other duties as assigned.
CLIP classes typically meet in the daytime from 9:00am-2:30pm and in the evening from 5:00pm-10:00pm. Instructors are assigned to teach in either of these sessions based on program needs.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required.

MA in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or related field strongly preferred At least three years of relevant teaching experience preparing adult language learners for college level study Experience successfully developing and teaching content-based ESL curricula for academic purposes supported by relevant theoretical knowledgeAbility to create and foster a learning community of various English proficiency levels Ability to receive and incorporate feedback for a continual growth model Experience using a learner-centered approach to provide appropriate scaffolding and differentiation for diverse student needs Experience using innovative instructional technology and LMS to design and deliver language instructionExperience teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students and sensitivity to their specific needs Flexible, creative, resourceful and able to work as part of a team to collaborate on program goals Ability to communicate effectively across professional and academic settings
Note:
Applicants who have a minimum of one full fall or spring semester of teaching experience as a CLIP CET or CLIP Instructor at any participating college, will be hired as a CLIP Instructor. Applicants who do not have a full semester of CLIP experience will be hired as a CLIP Continuing Education Teacher (CET) for a full fall or spring semester. A CET is an hourly position at 30 hours per week. CETs will receive professional development training in the CLIP curricula and instructional model. Upon successful completion of a full semester of service (up to 540 hours) as a CET, the CET will be eligible to be considered for appointment to a full-time CLIP Instructor position.
COMPENSATION
Starting salary is $54,968-$57,039, not including summer term.
