Police Property and Evidence Technician
The Gila River Indian Community is seeking a Police Property and Evidence Technician. This full-time position is with the Gila River Police Department and the salary range is $18.61 - $29.01 per hour. The job is located at 637 W. Gu U Ki Street, Sacaton, AZ. The Police Property and Evidence Technician is responsible for preserving the chain of custody and security of hazardous/non-hazardous evidence and non-evidential property received from law enforcement personnel. Receives, logs, packages, stores, inventories, issues and assists in the release or disposal of adjudicated materials. Releases, transports, and issues evidence for the purpose of performing laboratory tests and/or for use during court proceedings or for law enforcement purposes.Essential functions include receiving, reviewing, cataloging, labeling, tagging, marking packages and documents; safeguarding the integrity of the chain of custody; ensuring hazardous materials are appropriately handled, identified, stored, transported and legally disposed of; releasing items of evidence to authorized law enforcement personnel; reviewing security controls and alarms and making recommendations as needed; conducting inventory of property and evidence as required to ensure safeguarding of and accurate accounting of all items stored; destroying narcotics and unclaimed and unsold firearms in accordance with prescribed procedures and after authorization from Tribal Law office; attempting to locate owners of property and returning property to owner as directed; attending meetings and training sessions to remain updated on job specific issues; and performing other related duties as assigned.Required knowledge, skill, and ability include considerable knowledge of applicable federal, state, and tribal laws, codes, and regulations; knowledge of police procedures for impounding and safekeeping of property; knowledge of computers and software; working knowledge of firearms operation; basic knowledge of modern photographic techniques and equipment, including video; ability to understand and follow handling, retrieval and disposal procedures carefully; ability to implement storage, security and accounting procedures for items of a sensitive nature and/or valuable impounded property; ability to work independently; ability to display discretion and integrity in the performance of duties; ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to work irregular hours, holidays, weekends, and call outs; ability to bend, stretch, stoop, reach, and climb (stairs or stepladders); ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials and the general public; and ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.Required experience and training include a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of two (2) years' experience performing responsible clerical work, police work, and/or warehousing and inventory control. Additional requirements include being at least twenty-one (21) years of age, passing a background check and fingerprint clearance as a condition of employment, and obtaining a Tribal Operator's permit.
