Basic Qualifications :
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
Clearance Requirements:
Department of Defense Top Secret with Polygraph security clearance is required at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position:
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Technical Trainer. The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation’s fundamental defense services. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Conducts technical training courses for customers and/or employees in the use of complex situations for multiple products
Interacts with customer and functional organizations to develop specifications for content of courses
Prepares lesson plans from engineering documentation, field service requirements or software documentation
Works with engineering, technical support and manufacturing to ensure that course material reflects current product features.
Instructs participants in both classroom lectures and laboratory sessions
Follows up to determine applicability of course material
Provides supervision and tasking to other instructors in a team
Plans, develops and coordinates training programs for personnel and customers
Develops specifications for content of the courses
Prepares lesson plans and obtains training materials, determines methodology and coordinates the development of training aids
Conducts training sessions and develops criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities
Updates course documentation on a continuous basis to ensure timeliness and relevance
Instructs customer and user personnel to operate, maintain, and repair hardware and software in classroom and laboratory settings while adhering to lesson plans strategies to maintain consistent and effective training and to maximize student training time
Conducts additional classes based on instructor's subject matter expertise in response to customer needs
Establishes course content in accordance with customer requirements and military/commercial specifications and standards and respond to customer comments on training materials
Oversees development of course materials including but not limited to lesson plans, student and instructor guides, student examinations, training aids, etc. while working in an environment independent of support infrastructure
Conducts technical research of equipment specifications and engineering drawings, liaison with customers, engineers, and tech writers in order to gain understanding of new equipment designs using imagination, creativity, and understanding of learning processes to develop training slides, briefings, lesson plans, practical exercises, and tests
Determines if instructional materials should be developed in-house or purchased from outside vendors
Provides direct feedback to training supervisors on required instructional techniques
Provides non-routine technical telephone or face to face support in the absence of company technical infrastructure in order to resolve customers' hardware, software, and training issues
Provides expert non-routine technical and training inputs for the development of training proposals
Assumes routine duties of the primary instructor in his/her absence
Monitors and evaluates quality of classroom lectures and laboratory exercises
Acts as the subject matter expert for a lesson, annex of lessons, or entire equipment areas and be independently responsible for completion of training materials for assigned lessons on schedule
Updates material for assigned lessons following initial training class presentations student attendance rosters, academic and counseling records, and completion certificates
Conducts training material validation and assists with customer verification as required
Tests students on a regular basis by administering oral, written, and practical examinations
Evaluates trends to determine whether testing or training changes are needed
Establishes priorities and performance goals for team effectiveness
Conducts peer reviews of training deliverables for content and methodology
Provides mentoring to less qualified instructors on the duties and responsibilities expected in their position
Constructively reviews training deliverables for content and methodology
Maintains budgets and schedules
Evaluates the effectiveness of each instructor and quality of classroom lectures and provide recommendations for personnel development to the instructor's supervisor
Identifies and recommends internal/external seminars and other development programs for training personnel
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Having excellent experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways
Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors
Exercises excellent judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

Excellent understanding of business issues and company initiatives
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Excellent analytical thinking and problem solving skills
Ability to interact independently and without technical support with senior military personnel or government representatives in the analysis of complex technical information and interpret it into useable instructions for the intended audience
Ability to independently install and maintain hardware and software associated with the assigned duties of the position
Ability to use various software applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to produce training materials
Ability to recognize learning problems and to address each appropriately
