Fiber Infrastructure Technician

Visionary Broadband seeks a qualified individual to fulfill the role of Fiber Infrastructure Technician. This full-time, hourly position will join the Operations team at Visionary Broadband, a division of Visionary Communications, Inc., one of the top service providers in the region. The position is based out of Visionary’s Cheyenne Wyoming offices.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

New builds – mark on the prints and ground where the fiber footprint is to be placed, mapping out all aspects of the build (fiber, flower pots, pedestals and cabinets)

During builds complete quality control checks of the work to ensure it is being completed to the appropriate standards.

Verify any changes/additions to build and document these changes within Mergin Maps and with the necessary departments.

Certify that a build is complete and ready to be installed, by completing quality checks on the infrastructure and at each property.  

Represent Visionary Broadband in a professional manner while making repairs and upgrades on fiber infrastructure, fiber enclosures and Visionary building sites.

Examine and replace faulty and /or old fiber cables through use of testing equipment.

Resolve, repair and install fiber optics infrastructure, ensuring they work properly.

Organize scheduled maintenance routines for outside plant.

Possess integrity and a dedication to results, must be self-driven and have good problem solving skills.

Maintain professional behavior and proper communication with internal and external contacts, including company and branch employees, managers, and outside vendors.

Interact with customers, landowners and supervision over the phone and in person

Qualifications:

A qualified candidate must possess the following skills, or have equivalent experience and/or qualifications:

Must have 1-3 years experience working with fiber infrastructure and fiber maintenance

Must be able to physically lift up to 50 pounds

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, is necessary

Must have a valid driver license and be insurable to drive a company vehicle

Must be able handle and climb a ladder

Must be willing to travel within the region 30-50% of the time

Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements:

This position requires working in an office setting, driving to job sites, working outside in open weather conditions, climbing, stooping, bending and other physical requirements.

60%+ / - of the time will be spent walking and standing in the field with various weather conditions, as well as occasional lifting and / or carrying and / or pushing / pulling of items less than 25lbs.

Visual and audio acuity is essential to this position.
