Role Description
The Department of Energy and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Wyoming is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Multidisciplinary Advanced Stimulation Laboratory (MASL).
This position targets candidates with strong experimental depth and a demonstrated ability to translate laboratory research into
high-impact publications
.
The successful applicant will work closely with Dr. Soheil Saraji and contribute to advancing research in
subsurface energy systems
, spanning hydrocarbon recovery, carbon storage, and emerging energy technologies.
The role provides a platform to
lead experimental research initiatives, publish in top-tier journals, and develop an independent research trajectory
within a growing, well-connected program.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop experimental research in subsurface energy systems
Design and execute advanced laboratory studies (rock–fluid systems, geomechanics, EOR, HP/HT environments)
Publish as a leading author in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to proposal development
Mentor graduate students and contribute to a high-performance research environment
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and external partners (industry and national labs)
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geosciences, or related field
Strong record of peer-reviewed publications (first-author preferred)
Demonstrated expertise in experimental/laboratory research
Ability to independently drive research while contributing to collaborative efforts
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
Hands-on experience with core flooding, geomechanics, microfluidics, or high-pressure/high-temperature systems; background in multiphase flow, reactive transport, or coupled processes; experience integrating experiments with modeling/CFD/ML workflows.
Position Details
Full-time, 12-month appointment (renewable)
