Job Description

Title: Substitute

Supervised by: Preschool Teacher/ I/T Caregiver Classification: Non-exempt

Summary: Ensures the health and safety of all children. Assists teachers/caregivers to implement the classroom curriculum and daily routine in accordance with DCP policies and procedures. Focuses efforts on promoting school readiness and parent engagement.

Work hours must be flexible.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Maintains visual and auditory supervision of children at all times. Follows active supervision procedures.

2. Provides a welcoming environment for children and their family members.

3. Ensures that all classroom activities are developmentally appropriate and supportive of children?s learning styles.

4. Assists the teaching staff with the implementation of daily curriculum.

5. Interacts with children at their level supporting learning opportunities and encouraging the development of problem solving skills.

6. Participates in family?style meals.

7. Shares in maintaining a clean, safe, healthy learning environment.

8. Responsible for daily visual checks of the classroom and playground environments to ensure safety. Corrects or reports unsafe conditions to teacher/caregiver.

9. Maintains confidentiality of children, families and co-workers.

10. Maintains professional boundaries in relationships with families and co-workers.

11. Supports teaching staff in all center activities.

12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements: To fulfill the duties of this position successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty (with or without an accommodation). The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

Required Abilities:

Requires interacting with small children at their eye level frequently.

Requires lifting up to 40 pounds occasionally.

Requires sitting or standing in one place for up to two hours

Requires ability to kneel and recover repeatedly.

Requires moving furniture about and sweeping/mopping floors occasionally.

Requires ability to monitor classroom and staff activities auditorily and visually.

Requires ability to move quickly to intercept/redirect child.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 18 years of age. Experience providing care to groups of infant/toddler and/or preschool aged children preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $14.00 per hour
