Native Focused Design Technologist, Illinois

We're looking for a Design Technologist to join our team to help build, scale, and maintain our design system infrastructure with a strong emphasis on mobile platforms. This hybrid role blends native app development and design system thinking with the goal of increasing velocity, consistency, and collaboration across product, brand, and engineering teams. As we grow, our design system is a critical foundation. We need a technologist who can bridge the gap between designers and mobile engineers someone who can translate visual language into robust, reusable components, workflows, and tools that empower teams to move faster without compromising quality.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate closely with designers and engineers to develop and maintain our cross-platform design system, with particular focus on iOS (Swift/SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin/Jetpack Compose) implementations.

Create and maintain design tokens, mobile UI components, and shared code patterns that scale across native platforms.

Build internal tools like Figma plugins or CLI scripts that help mobile engineers and designers work more efficiently and consistently.

Provide guidance and support to mobile product teams on the best ways to adopt and integrate design system assets, through pairing sessions, sample code, and clear documentation.

Develop interactive mobile prototypes to demonstrate component behavior and UX patterns.

Use user research, data, and performance metrics to drive decision-making and refinement of system components.

Ensure accessibility, performance, and native platform conventions are upheld in all system components.

Contribute to platform-specific tooling and lint rules that improve consistency and compliance.

Review mobile code and UI for adherence to system guidelines and platform best practices.

Write and maintain documentation that includes usage guidance, behavior specs, integration instructions, and code examples for iOS and Android platforms.

Experience & Qualifications

4+ years of experience as a mobile or cross-platform software engineer, building and iterating on user-facing product features or internal tooling.

1+ years of experience contributing to or maintaining a design system (mobile or cross-platform).

Expertise in Swift (or SwiftUI) and/or Kotlin (or Jetpack Compose); familiarity with component-based thinking and design token integration in mobile apps.

Some experience with web technologies (e.g., TypeScript, Vue, React Native) is a plus, but not the focus of this role.

A deep understanding of accessibility and how it applies to native mobile experiences.

Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.

Strong collaboration skills, particularly in cross-functional settings with designers, product managers, and other engineers.

Demonstrated ability to scope and deliver large or multi-milestone projects on time.

4+ years of experience as a mobile or cross-platform software engineer, building and iterating on user-facing product features or internal tooling.
