Adjunct Lecturer - Linguistics

Department: Department of Languages and Literature
Rate: $**** per contact hour (with a terminal degree) and $**** per contact hour (without a terminal degree).
This compensation is per contact hour and is subject to change based on class size.
Brief overview of duties: The Department of Languages and Literature inthe Daniel L. Goodwin College of Business
and Liberal Arts invites applications for anAdjunct Lecturer in Linguistics.
The preferred candidate will have a terminaldegree in linguistics, applied linguistics, or a closely
associated field.
TESOL experience with adultsin an academic setting and willingness to travel to
teach are essential.
The position involves teaching in the MA inLinguistics program (TESOL Concentration), which is
currently offered to yearly cohorts ofexperienced Vietnamese teachers entirely in English in both
face-to-face and hybrid modes.
No knowledge ofVietnamese is required, but willingness to engage
with Vietnamese colleagues in English is partof the job.
Supervision of graduate students' thesis research
and evaluation of theses may be required, andthe ability to teach basic qualitative and quantitative
research methods is essential.
The successful candidate must be prepared totravel to Vietnam to teach face-to-face for 2-4 weeks each
year, typically in late summer but possibly atother times, and to complete the teaching of some courses
online.
Travel expenses (airfare, hotel,insurance, visa processing, per diem for meals and incidentals as
well as transportation to and from airport)will be covered by Benedictine University.
We currently anticipate
that the successful candidate will be asked toteach two or three courses (8-12 contact hours) per year
depending on enrollment and program need.
Candidates need not reside in the Chicagometropolitan area.

RequiredQualifications:
Doctoral or Master's degree and experience in relevant area required.

PhysicalRequirements: Whileperforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talkor hear.
The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands totouch, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
This position requires the ability tooccasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
Use of computer screen, phone andcustomer service.
May require bending, or sitting for longperiods of time.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include closevision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception andability to adjust focus.
The following of campus specificguidelines for pandemic protocols is required.
Training: As a University employee you arerequired to complete all University-specific and/or OSHA related training tofulfill your job duties.
Specific training will be conducted online or inperson.
Employees must complete all trainings required by BenedictineUniversity.
