Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications Illinois Paraprofessional License (ISBE); knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic; ability to follow oral/written directions; general office procedures and use of equipment; strong interpersonal skills with students who have diverse needs.
Preferred Qualifications Experience working with special education students and/or English Learners; bilingual skills; ability to organize games/recreation and support classroom routines.

Direct Supervisor

Essential Functions

The functions and responsibilities listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability, physical demands and working conditions required of this position, it does not specifically prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
Demonstrate support for Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123's Strategic Framework. Uphold established Board of Education policies, regulations, and administrative procedures. Maintain and improve professional competence; participate in meetings and training as assigned. Ability to stand/walk for extended periods; regular attendance and on-site presence are essential.Essential Responsibilities
Assist Teacher Support instructional activities and small-group/1:1 learning in the classroom; prepare materials; set up equipment; help record and maintain student records; assist in assessment as directed. Provide organization, cueing, and redirection aligned to teacher guidance; may record grades as directed.Interpret and/or translate as needed to support English Learners and families.
Assist Students Provide daily instructional support to build academic and language skills and access classroom content; lead small groups within the classroom when assigned. Supervise students across settings (classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeteria, playground, bus) to promote safety and positive behavior; organize and direct games and age-appropriate activities.Attend to physical needs as directed by the teacher (e.g., putting on/taking off outerwear, toileting, feeding, hygiene, wheelchair transfers, bus assistance), supporting dignity and independence.
Records&Communication Perform accurate record-keeping (attendance, assessment data, classroom records) and maintain confidentiality. Communicate and cooperate with colleagues, students,, and the community to meet professional standards.
Professional Responsibilities Maintain and improve professional competence; participate in meetings and complete responsibilities as assigned by the principal or designee per Board policy. Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods; maintain regular attendance and on-site presence.
