Description The primary task of the adjunct instructor at Southern Union State Community College is to instruct students in activities designed to promote intellectual growth. Essential duties and responsibilities of an adjunct instructor include commitments to students in the classroom, the teaching discipline, students outside the classroom, to the College, and to the community. SALARY : Adjunct instructors in the academic fields are paid $550.00 per credit hour taught, not to exceed 19 hours per week. Essential Job Functions In addition to adhering to the policies, procedures and guidelines as specified by the Southern Union State Community College Employee Handbook, Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, and Division/Department Chair, duties include the following: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Designs and administers at least three evaluations for grade determination each semester. Demonstrates knowledge and competency in teaching assigned classes on campus and on-line. Uses written objectives as criteria for evaluation for student performance. Uses appropriate teaching-learning aids, materials, and methodologies. Prepares course syllabi and objectives in conjunction with College and departmental guidelines. Submits syllabi to the Department Chairperson for approval. Engages in appropriate professional development in order to remain current in discipline and teaching techniques. Participates in departmental selection of texts and teaching materials as well as appropriate supplementary and complimentary subject materials for the Learning Resources Center. Performs duties within established time frames (i.e., submission of class/office hours, class schedules, course grades, reports, etc.). Uses student learning outcomes to create a process of continual instructional improvement. Maintains appropriate and timely communications with students. Represents the institution in a positive manner STANDARD JOB DUTIES&RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Qualifications Applicant's must hold a minimum of a Bachelor"s degree in the discipline and have completed 27 semester hours in the field (40.5 quarter hours). Meet other appropriate requirements for certification as required by accreditation entities. Teaching experience preferred
