Description
A Custodian is needed for the Lancaster campus of Ohio University. Under general direction of Manager of Maintenance and Operations, the custodian performs duties to provide care, cleaning & maintenance of buildings, furniture & fixtures.
Adheres to all OSHA, CDC and/or Ohio University required safety guidelines
Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes, polishes and renews floor surfaces
Cleans and shampoos rugs and carpets
Washes walls; cleans, dusts and waxes furniture and fixtures following either Level 1 or Level 2 clean/sanitize/disinfect guidelines as directed
Cleans glass and mirrors
Cleans and empties trash receptacles
May remove and hang drapes
Removes snow and ice from walkways and entrance areas
Reports need for equipment repair
Reports evidence of fire, illegal entry and theft of property
Checks in supplies; stocks supply areas
Cleans and sanitizes bathroom fixtures & drinking fountains.
Performs other related duties as required.
This is a temporary, full-time position starting ASAP and ending September 19, 2025. The hours of work will be 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (30 minute lunch break) from start date until August 16, 2025. Beginning August 18, the hours will change to 3 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. (30 minute lunch break) until the final day. Pay is $15/hour.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in sanitation and safety areas of dining, residential, academic and administrative units
Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral, and pictorial form
Ability to work independently or with others
Demonstrate willingness to work with diverse populations
Ability to read and write common vocabulary in sentence structure
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, calculate fractions, decimals and percentages
Ability to apply principles to solve practical problems
Ability to demonstrate dexterity and skill in use of craft-associated hand and/or power tools and equipment
Ability to mix cleaning compounds and follow safety procedures
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
May require valid driver's license
Completion of a test may be required
May be exposed to extreme temperatures
May be exposed to dirt, grease, odors, cramped conditions, extreme hot or cold temperatures, heights, and electrical hazards
May be exposed to dangerous machinery
During Level 2 working conditions will be required to wear designated PPE up to and including full body suit, appropriate mask, etc.
An established pattern of good work habits and performance with good interpersonal skills.
