Job Description Summary Muenster Hospital District is seeking a strong financial leader to support the continued stability, growth, and long-term success of Muenster Memorial Hospital. As a member of the senior leadership team, this role will participate in financial, operational, and strategic decision-making necessary to support the hospital’s mission of providing quality, community-focused healthcare. The ideal candidate will have experience in rural healthcare, Critical Access Hospital finance, revenue cycle, budgeting, reporting, cash flow management, and regulatory compliance. This position requires a leader who can work closelywith hospital leadership, department directors, the Board, auditors, payors, vendors, and community partners. Duties and Responsibilities The Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for the overall financial operations of the Hospital District, including accounting, budgeting, audit preparation,financial reporting, reimbursement, revenue cycle oversight, and financial planning. Key responsibilities include: Oversee financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, audits, cost reporting, tax-related activities, and financial planning. Work with the CEO and senior leadership team to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, objectives, and financial plans. Provide financial leadership and guidance to department leaders to support ownership, accountability, and informed decision-making. Monitor cash flow, accounts receivable, revenue cycle performance, expenses, and overall financial performance. Ensure the Hospital District meets financial, regulatory, reporting, and compliance requirements. Assist in the development of pro formas for new services, capital projects, and revenue-generating initiatives. Identify cost-saving opportunities and assist leadership in developing action plans for implementation and follow-up. Support organization-wide performance improvement efforts through financial analysis and reporting. Prepare and present financial reports to the CEO, Board of Directors, medical staff, and leadership team as needed. Serve as a liaison with outside parties, including banks, auditors, consultants, payors, Medicare/Medicaid contractors, and other financial partners. Participate in operational reviews, leadership meetings, Board meetings, and community meetings as appropriate. Provide oversight for assigned departments or staff, including budgeting, time approvals, evaluations, and expense approvals. Maintain confidentiality regarding financial, personnel, and patient-related information. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful candidate should demonstrate: Knowledge of Critical Access Hospital operations and rural healthcare finance. Strong understanding of revenue cycle, reimbursement, cost reporting, and cash flow management. Ability to analyze financial data and communicate findings clearly to leadership and the Board. Strong problem-solving skills related to revenue, expenses, billing,collections, and financial operations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, leadership, the Board, providers, vendors, and the community. Sound judgment, emotional maturity, professionalism, and the ability to manage change. Strong verbal, written, and listening skills. Ability to lead teams, support department directors, and promote accountability. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately. Public relations and community communication skills. Work Experience, Education, and Certifications Preferred qualifications include: Previous CFO, Controller, or senior financial leadership experience in a hospital or healthcare setting. Critical Access Hospital experience preferred. Minimum of five years of progressive financial/accounting management experience preferred. Minimum of three years of revenue cycle experience preferred. Experience in rural healthcare, governmental entities, or nonprofit healthcare preferred. Experience with Medicare cost reporting, Medicaid, audits, budgeting, and financial reporting preferred. Meditech experience preferred. Master’s degree, CPA, or other relevant certification preferred but not required. Experience with construction financing, capital projects, or facility planning is a plus.
