Must love making a difference in people's lives, serving the community, and working with a great team. The Recruit is a non-sworn Police Department employee in a trainee capacity. Incumbents are required to attend a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) certified academy to develop the minimum qualifications necessary to assume a position as a sworn police officer.Work activities include attending and successfully completing all required phases of basic training through a certified Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) academy, operating and maintaining vehicle and personal equipment, attending training activities and receiving classroom and field instruction in job related subjects, maintaining a positive, friendly and effective working relationship with the general public and co-workers, reporting any unsafe, hazardous, or perilous conditions to proper authority, adhering to the personnel, safety, and departmental policies, procedures, and Administrative Orders, informing supervisor of all work activities, and performing other duties as assigned.Basic qualifications include being a United States Citizen, at least 21 years of age, possessing a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED), meeting all TCOLE minimum requirements, possessing a valid Texas Driver's License and driving record in compliance with Town policy, having no convictions involving family violence, having no convictions of a Class A misdemeanor or greater under the Texas Penal Code or any comparable state or federal law, having no convictions of a Class B misdemeanor under the Texas Penal Code or any comparable state or federal law within the past ten (10) years, having no criminal charges pending or under indictment for any criminal offense, having no marijuana use within the last two years and no other illegal drug use within the last five years, not being on probation for any criminal offense, not having more than three chargeable accidents within the last three years, or any combination of chargeable accidents and moving violations which equal four or more in the last three years.To meet the minimum qualifications for this posting, one of these will need to apply to your current status: you have a minimum of 30 college hours with a GPA of 2.0 or higher from an institution of higher education as defined by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Rule 211.1(a)(3), you have a minimum of 2 years of experience in the United States Armed Forces with an Honorable Discharge OR an active member of the United States Military Reserve, you are a current Flower Mound Police Department Detention Services Officer, Animal Services Officer or Communications Officer who meets minimum standards for hire as a Police Officer Recruit (FMPD Employment Standards and Qualifications, Administrative Directive 101.008).The physical abilities described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must have good hand-eye coordination to operate police equipment (vehicles, weapons, radios, etc.), must be able to follow oral and written directives, must be able to see; write; hear; talk; run; climb; bend; have vision correctable to 20/20 binocular; be able to distinguish between red, green, and yellow in order to accurately describe suspects and vehicles and to identify traffic lights and sign colors; physically restrain a person, endure extended periods of exertion, and sit for long periods of time; observe and remember names, faces, and details of incidents; and work in adverse environmental conditions.
