Job Title
Under general supervision, conducts a wide variety of activities necessary for operations at any Commission facility, including customer service and unloading customers' vehicles. Primary responsibilities include capturing and sorting all recyclable material from components or capturing it as quality control on a conveyor line. Remove unacceptable material from the recycling stream and properly handle hazardous materials.Essential Functions

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:Perform manual labor when necessary to conduct general site maintenance, including litter control, lawn maintenance, and snow removal. Utilizing small hand tools and machinery, removes recyclable components from appliances and electronics received at the facility, sorts recyclable material, and removes unacceptable material received at Commission facilities.Collect, sort, stockpile, and haul salvage items. Sort recyclables and remove unacceptable material from the comingled recyclable material delivered to the Commission. Perform general service checks on Commission equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and removing wrapped or jammed items. Provide quality customer service with all customer interactions at Commission Facilities.Once trained, operates manual equipment to move materials throughout Commission Facilities. Adheres to shop cleanliness, 5S organizational systems, and facility standard work procedures while maintaining a vision for continuous improvement. Perform other job-related duties as needed and/or assigned.Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines: For operational safety, must be age 18 or older and have the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job. Must pass post-offer physical and background check. Knowledge of: Work policies, procedures, operations, and health and safety plans.Environmental Health and Safety Management System (EHSMS) policy and what it means to the Commission. Understands how the position and job responsibilities impact the environment and what can be done to improve them. Recommends improvements to the EMS Core Team or Commission Management in cases where the authority does not reside within this position to make the improvements.Understands and adheres to industry certifications, including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. Demonstrate understanding of the Commission's mission, vision, and values, and consistently apply them in daily activities and decision-making. Essential Skills: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, officials, and the general public.Ability to communicate effectively with employees and customers to deliver instructions and resolve issues. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to operate a personal computer and general office equipment. Ability to coordinate own actions with those of other workers/operators on a busy site. Ability to be flexible in daily duties assigned depending on the needs of the Commission facilities.Ability to have and maintain reliable transportation to and from scheduled work. Certification Requirements: Preferred certification in Red Cross CPR and safety training. Physical Demands: Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk and hear, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and smell or taste.Must regularly lift and/or move up to 5 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must follow Commission safety protocols for lifting in excess of 50 pounds, including but not limited to team lifting techniques. Regularly required to utilize personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, gloves, and protective clothing. At the Scott Area Recycling Facility must frequently utilize personal protective equipment such as a hard hat.Requires good spatial perception and manual dexterity. Working Environment: Frequently required to perform work outdoors year-round with exposure to weather conditions prevalent at the time. Routine exposure to vibration and loud background noise. Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. Occasional exposure to risk of electric shock and extreme heat (non-weather).Occasional non-regular work hours, which may include nights and weekends.
