Lifeguard Position

This position participates in the provision of lifeguarding services at city aquatics facilities. Major duties include: Performing lifeguarding duties and ensuring the safety of guests by observing swimmers. Enforcing pool rules and regulations and ensuring all safety measures are observed. Assisting in maintaining the cleanliness and proper function of the facility.Training and receiving proper Red Cross Lifeguard certifications. Cleaning grounds, locker rooms, and office. Providing patrons with information and assistance. Inspecting the facility and reporting unsafe conditions. Completing accurate incident and accident reports. Responding to water emergencies and performing water rescues.Administering First Aid as needed. Setting up classroom and party room for events. Complying with City and departmental rules, policies, and procedures. Performing related duties. Minimum qualifications include: Being at least 15 years of age at time of employment. American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification at the time of employment.Passing a required swim test. Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job. Knowledge required by the position includes: Pool safety guidelines. Water rescue techniques. Safe operation standards. Analysis of problems and development and implementation of solutions.Provision of water rescue services. CPR, AED, and First Aid activities. Completion of reports. Oral and written communication with various audiences. Dealing tactfully and effectively with the public. Reacting quickly and accurately in emergency situations. Reading, interpreting, and applying operating policies and procedures.Providing quality customer service. Maintaining composure during mentally, physically, and emotionally stressful situations. Working evenings, weekends, and holidays, or flexible schedules. The work consists of related lifeguarding duties with the need to respond to emergency incidents contributing to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to perform lifeguarding duties at a public pool, contributing to the safety of patrons. Contacts are typically with co-workers and members of the general public to provide services, exchange information, or resolve problems. The work environment includes exposure to sun, water, noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals, with work performed outdoors in various weather conditions.
