This is a PROMOTIONAL ONLY recruitment to establish an eligibility list and fill a vacancy.
The eligibility list will be used to fill permanent vacancies which may occur during the life of the eligibility list.
Promotional examinations shall be restricted to permanent employees of the District who meet the qualifications of the class.
Positions in this classification are full-time, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year.
Some positions may be 211 work days.
The recruitment process will consist of a written and oral technical interview, which is tentatively scheduled during the weeks of May 25 - June 12, **** .

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, Assistant Principal or Vice Principal, provide a variety of responsible secretarial and clerical support services in the administrative office of a high school, or an assigned District function; provide information and assistance to students, parents, faculty, administrators, staff and school visitors; may monitor student behavior and needs as appropriate.
FUNCTION & DUTIES
Perform a wide variety of responsible secretarial and clerical work related to the functions and activities of a high school administrative office or as related to assigned function.
E Greet and assist visitors to the office including parents, students, faculty, staff, administrators and others; provide information and directions as appropriate.
E Maintain a variety of financial and statistical records according to established procedures and time lines; process various forms and applications; maintain confidentiality of information as appropriate.
E Initiate and answer telephone calls; take and relay messages; schedule appointments; explain program policies and procedures within the scope of authority; provide information of general or limited technical nature.
E Type reports, memoranda, schedules and lists form straight copy, rough drafts or oral instructions; compose independently or from oral instruction, letters requesting or providing information or dealing with routine matters.
E Order and maintain various forms, supplies and equipment as necessary for efficient office operations; maintain a variety of complex files, records and logs.
E Take and transcribe dictation of letters, reports, bulletins, meetings and memoranda or transcribe materials from dictation equipment as required by the position.
E Must demonstrate attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position as required.
E Operate office machines such as typewriter, copiers, calculator, and computer terminals; operate a walkie-talkie as assigned.
Check reports, records and other data for accuracy, completeness and compliance with established standards; screen, verify and adjust attendance records and other data as assigned.
Count and balance cash receipts and maintain financial records as assigned.
Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF: Functions and activities of a high school office, or assigned District function.
Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
Telephone techniques and etiquette.
Financial and statistical record keeping techniques.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Oral and written communication skills.
Operation of standard office equipment.
ABILITY TO: Provide secretarial support services for a classified supervisor in a District function or an Assistant Principal or Vice Principal in a high school office.
Work independently with little direction.
Type at 45 words net per minute from clear copy.
Work confidentially with discretion.
Take and transcribe dictation accurately or use dictation equipment as required by the position.
Operate a variety of office machines including typewriter, calculator, copiers and computer terminal.
Perform varied secretarial and clerical support duties.
Compose correspondence independently or from oral instructions.
Perform duties effectively with many demands on time and constant interruptions.
Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Add, subtract, multiply and divide quickly and accurately.
Meet schedules and time lines.
Maintain records and prepare reports.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Demonstrate attendance required to perform duties of the position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years of increasingly responsible secretarial and clerical experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENT: Office environment; subject to constant interruptions.
Full-time Employees earn up:
12 paid vacation days per year
12 paid sick days per year with unlimited accumulation
13 paid holidays
The District offers two excellent medical plans, Blue Shield and Kaiser Permanente ; two dental plans, Delta Dental and MetLife SafeGuard ; and vision care through Vision Service Plan (VSP).
Currently full-time employees (employees working 6 hours or more per day) pay 20% of the premium cost for these plans.
All plans are available to the employee and their dependents.
This coverage is available to employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Retirement benefits include membership in CalPERS (California Public Employee's Retirement System) and Social Security (OASDI).
This is a joint contribution plan.
To qualify for CalPERS an employee must work a minimum of 20 hours per week or already be a member, if not the employee is eligible for an alternative retirement plan.
Additionally, the District encourages employees to pursue professional growth, and provides financial incentive for classified employees completing professional growth programs.
Additional benefits available to employees to which the District does not contribute include life insurance, a Section 125 Flexible Benefit Plan, an income protection plan, and a credit union.
Substitute employees are not eligible for vacation or holiday pay but are eligible to earn sick leave at the rate of one hour per 30 hours worked, not to exceed 48 hours.
Further, substitute employees are not automatically eligible for CalPERS or District health benefits.
