Mechanical Project Engineer
Oxford, NC
6 months contract
Pay rate: $57/hr W2
GENERAL FUNCTION
The incumbent will manage the development and safe implementation of equipment and installation (packages) within capital projects for the CertainTeed Roofing manufacturing plants including process design development, procurement, installation, and commissioning.
The Project Engineer II reports to the Sr Project Engineering Manager and works for the Project Managers within the Project Management Office (PMO) in the assigned project, meeting or exceeding their expectations in terms of Scope, Cost, Schedule, and communication.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist the evaluation and development of assigned capital packages related to design, capital requests, procurement (including, scope of works documents, contracts and change orders), budget, schedule, installation and commissioning.
• Develop initial designs and layouts for the assigned packages and then expand them into detailed plans and drawings.
• Support senior project engineer's on assigned projects led by Roofing TIP or led by the Roofing plant teams to deliver installations safely, on time and on budget.
• Support the Technical Office in the development of designs and processes to deliver the best performance and lowest cost giving due regard to safety, operations, maintenance, and legal compliance.
• Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations supporting design.
• Support continuous improvement of process plant design in collaboration with the Operational Excellence Team and the Technical Office.
• Assist in the startup and commissioning of equipment and other mechanical systems onsite.
• Ensure the efficient transfer of projects to the Operations team, including all documentation, training support, spare parts packages, preventive maintenance manuals, troubleshooting guides, etc.
• Maintain, and communicate project status to meet company goals.
• Participate in the design phase of the projects providing input to the process.
• Follows the Project Execution Manual Check Lists (Stage gate process) applying the standard tools at each step of the project (risk register, change register, etc).
• Maintain fluid communication and collaboration with other members of Roofing (TIP), Project Management Office (PMO), Technical Office, OPEX Team, Loss Prevention Team, and other corporate teams such as Operations, Quality, R&D or Safety during the project's life cycle.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar Engineering field. Open to technical degree if they have contractor experience.
- 3+ years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
- Practical experience and knowledge of piping system design and its application in an industrial continuous process manufacturing environment
- Ability to read all types of engineering drawings
- Understanding or experience in sizing, specifying, purchasing, and installing various pumps, fans, compressors, burners and related pipe and ductwork
- Understanding or experience with material handling, packaging equipment, continuous web and pollution control systems
- Preferred candidate may have operational site and project execution experience
