Job Title
Under general supervision, responsible for properly receiving, storage and issuance of bus and small fleet vehicle equipment parts.
Duties include issuing parts, supplies and special tools to mechanics and making them available readily with accuracy and dependability.
Essential Functions
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Locates and obtains bus and equipment parts and supplies with accuracy and promptly.
2. Assembles and fills orders as requested.
Issue parts to open work orders as parts are distributed to mechanics.
3. Checks vendor packing slips/invoices for accuracy, ensuring quantities received are as stated.
Directly issues parts received to open work orders or places parts in the proper location within the parts room.
4. Help in maintaining accurate inventory levels by performing periodic cycle counts on inventory or as required, and participates in year-end inventory reconciliation.
5. Stores and issues special tools for the shop and performs the required housekeeping tasks.
6. Complies with all regulations regarding the handling of hazardous materials.
Obtains Material Safety Data Sheets as required from vendors.
7. Operates or dispatches a shop pickup truck to pick up parts as required.
8. Move heavy parts (50 lbs or more) from one location to another.
9. Prepare and ship packages.
10. Research part numbers and descriptions in the parts manual.
11. Inventories, fuels and lubricants daily.
12. Conducts, records, and provides accurate fuel readings for ordering and maintaining proper fuel levels.
13. Performs cycle counting.
14. Must be available to work different shifts as required.
15. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
16. Ability to complete an assigned task in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
17. Must read chemical labels and follow safe handling procedures.
18. Must understand and follow all safety rules.
19. Must be able to work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors.
20. Perform other duties similar in nature and level as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or its equivalent.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in clerical work in the receipt, storage, and issuance of vehicle equipment and associated parts, materials, and supplies.
An equivalent combination of education and experience that are determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirement may be substituted.
Work Hours
8 hours a day.
Monday through Friday.
Some overtime may be permitted, with prior approval from the supervisor.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
Minimum age 21 years.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities
1. Considerable knowledge of parts, materials, supplies, and general commodities associated with the operation of a Shop that maintains cars, light and medium duty trucks, buses, and equipment.
2. Considerable knowledge of vendor sources for procurement of needed parts, materials, and supplies for CHT fleet and equipment.
3. Considerable knowledge of stocking purchases and requisition methods and procedures.
4. Ability to work within a computer software program for the purpose of locating, receiving, and issuing parts.
5. Ability to move parts and equipment of various sizes and shapes, and may be of considerable weight.
6. Knowledge of computerized inventory systems.
7. Knowledge of basic office/recordkeeping techniques.
8. Ability to speak, read, and write the English language.
9. Knowledge of basic storeroom procedures.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, ability to compute rates and percents and the ability to draw and interpret bar graphs from data.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration
Valid North Carolina driver's license.
Physical Demands

Position requires working in seasonal weather, both indoors and outdoors.
The work is typically performed in a garage.
The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals.

Retirement Health Savings Plan
Employees hired after June 30, ****, in a regular full-time or regular part-time position are required to participate in the Retirement Health Savings Plan.
Contributions are taken on a pre-tax basis.
The current contribution amount is 1%.
Paid Time Off
Vacation/Annual Leave:
Employees in regular full or part time positions earn between 12 and 26 days per year depending upon length of Town service.
Sick Leave:
Employees in full or part time regular positions earn 12 days per year.
Paid Parental Leave:
Eligible employees receive 6 weeks of Paid Parental Leave after birth or placement of a child in the home for adoption or foster care.
This leave does not come from Employee's leave bank.
Paid Holidays:
There are 12 official Town holidays.
Employees in full or part time regular positions are eligible for paid holiday time.
Personal Leave:
All employees in full or part time regular positions are granted 3 days of personal leave per year.
This leave is non-cumulative.
Local Government Retirement System
All employees in regular full or part time position are required to contribute to the retirement system.
Contributions are taken on a pre-tax basis.
The current contribution amount is 6%.
Supplemental Retirement Plans
NC 401(k)-The Town makes a contribution of 5% to the 401(k) for all regular full and part time employees.
There is no employee match required.
Employees have the option of making contributions on a pre or post tax basis.
The plan is administered by Empower.
457 Deferred Compensation Plan-Town of Chapel Hill employees have the option of making contributions to a 457.
The Town does not make contributions to this plan.
The plan is administered by MissionSquare.
