Description P O S I T I O N O V E R V I E W : The instructor creates, manages, and participates in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives. The instructor participates collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and the college and of the collective and individual interests of its staff and student body. The instructor supports and seeks always to fulfill the guiding concepts for the college embodied in the philosophy, mission, values, and vision adopted by the college. Assume responsibility for the orderliness of the learning environment and in the appropriate and safe use of instructional facilities and equipment. Class preparation: Takes time each day to prepare lesson material. Possess thorough understanding of course material and follow the lesson plans. P rep a re in a d v a n c e to s ee that stu d ents h a v e su f fici e n t m at e ri a l s a n d eq u i p m e n t to c om p l e te all clas s es a n d lab assi gn m ents. Instructional training: Implements instructional training techniques in the classroom. Is effective in generating classroom participation through question asking, student presentations and group exercises. Correlate class lessons to shop/lab lessons. Or g a n i z e, pl a n, and prepare s t ud ent s’ la b / s h o p pro j ec t s and pr o v i d e e ffe c ti v e “ h a nd s- o n t ra in i ng .” Ensure materials and/or equipment is ready and available. Student retention: Identifies all "at risk" students (attendance, academics, and conduct related) and takes a proactive role in assisting "atrisk" students with tutoring, encouragement and working with the Program Director, Student Services Coordinator and Student Retention Specialist to keep them in school. Continuing education: Actively pursues and completes in field, professional certification (s). Seeks to constantly improve teachingskills and techniques through different personal improvement avenues. Keeps pace with industrial changes within his/her field. Maintain competency and currency in the subject matter of courses taught and in teaching skills. Completes 6 CEU’s annually. Student competencies: Organizes, manages, andensures the completion of student’s competencies for each phase. Attendance: Take roll call twice a schedule, post attendance on the instructor portal every day before midnight. Student documentation: Documented timely and accurately all issues pertaining to the student(s) (i.e. behavior issues,absenteeism, tardiness, unable to perform tasks/skills, lack of participation, or unable to work with others). Classroom management: Maintain an orderly classroom always, and control over student’s behavior always and does not allow students to disrupt the learning environment. Utilize the competency checking and recording system designed for your program. Maintain and pass on the students’ competency folders to subsequent instructors. Turnaround/Feedback on Course Content: Instructors respond within 24 hours, Monday through Friday on student questions such as lecture topics, discussion boards, on-line assignments, uploaded assignments, and outside work. Grading needs to be completed within three workdays. Office/Virtual Office Hours: Instructor is available to meet with students during office hours on campus and during virtual office hours on-line. Office hours and Virtual office hours are posted in Canvas and documented in course syllabus. Effective on-line communication- Instructors need to communicate professionally always and when providing feedback on discussion boards to each student, it must be constructive and provoke critical thinking to have ongoing “thread” of discussions with students in the class.“Great job”, “Awesome Answer”, “Superb”, “Nice” are not thought-provoking responses. Required to keep Canvas course updated. P er f o r m o ther w o r k -rel a t e d d u ties that are assi gn ed. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE&OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of an Associates of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Electronics or Aerospace field. Minimum of 4 years of field experience in the last ten years. Teaching experience preferred at the post-secondary level. Understand aerospace manufacturing, research, and testing. Understanding of basic electronics, communication circuitry and equipment. Understanding of basic aerospace operational checks, troubleshooting and repair equipment. Must be able to pass criminal background check. Areas of expertise: DC Circuits AC Circuits Solid State Elements Operational Amplifiers Digital Fundamentals Digital Applications Aerodynamics Aerospace systems MUST have experience with communications circuits and principles including amplitude, frequency, phase modulation, transmitters, receiver, transmission lines, antennas, and wave propagation. Faculty teaching any hybrid distance education courses, or in any of the hybrid programs must demonstrate proficiency in operating computer programs as Word and Excel. Prior teaching experience in distance education instruction is preferred. M u st b e ab l e to w o rk f l e x i b le h o u rs. Must have a personal cell phone to be used with the MFA. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
