Product Functional Test Mechanical Tech - Level II
to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Jamestown, NY.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Ensure test readiness and reliability
by expertly preparing test articles, fixtures, rigs, and equipment so every test starts from a solid, controlled baseline.
Strengthen test accuracy
by installing instrumentation correctly and consistently, following engineering standards that protect data quality and test validity.
Improve test execution
by assisting with procedures, setups, and methodology, helping the team run tests smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
Protect data integrity
by understanding how both the product and the test equipment function, allowing you to spot issues that could compromise results.
Reduce downtime

Enhance operational flow
by preparing and tearing down test articles quickly and accurately, enabling faster test cycles and better use of lab resources.
Support continuous improvement
by identifying equipment, setup, or process issues and contributing insights that help refine testing practices.
Increase team capacity
by taking ownership of routine and technical tasks, freeing engineers and technicians to focus on higher‑level analysis and development.
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Strong data‑acquisition discipline
so you can prepare samples, verify calibrations, and run tests exactly to standard procedures—ensuring the data you produce is accurate, repeatable, and trusted by engineers and customers.
Clear, structured documentation skills
to translate complex test setups, instrument settings, and results into reports that make it easy for others to understand what was done, why it matters, and what conclusions can be drawn.
A solid grasp of test system design fundamentals
so you can interpret test requirements, select the right equipment and instrumentation, and understand how each component affects boundary conditions and data quality.
Technical judgment in test setup and configuration
to read a test plan, choose the correct orientation and placement, and build safe, compliant setups that support valid and meaningful results.
Hands‑on mechanical and assembly skills
to build test articles accurately, integrate instrumentation properly, and ensure the article can withstand the full test cycle without compromising data integrity.
An understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance
so you can interpret equipment records, spot early signs of wear or failure, and help develop maintenance strategies that keep the lab running smoothly.
Attention to detail and situational awareness
to catch inconsistencies, equipment issues, or setup errors before they impact test validity or safety.
A continuous‑improvement mindset
that helps you refine processes, improve equipment reliability, and contribute to higher‑quality testing outcomes over time.
