Role Summary
The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for analysing financial information and preparing journal entries to record assets, liabilities, profit and loss transactions, and other financial activities.
This individual will support the accounting and finance structure, working closely with operations while assisting with month-end close activities across multiple locations as needed.
This role requires experience with percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting, including revenue recognition, project cost analysis, and collaboration with operations to ensure accurate financial reporting for long-term contracts.
Key Responsibilities
Participate actively in monthly accounting close processes in accordance with US GAAP
Prepare month-end journal entries, general ledger account analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations
Support POC accounting activities, including:
Reviewing project costs
Performing revenue recognition
Evaluating cost-to-complete estimates
Assist in resolving issues that may impact the accuracy or timeliness of the month-end close process
Maintain awareness of company accounting policies and relevant corporate guidelines
Ensure compliance with SOX requirements and internal controls
Perform sales and margin analysis, including project-based profitability reporting under POC accounting
Process accruals and support related accounting activities
Conduct warranty analysis and coordinate with operations to anticipate future warranty exposure
Contribute to process improvements and support additional accounting duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
3–5 years of relevant accounting experience
Accruals
Month-end journal entries
General ledger analysis
Balance sheet reconciliations
Hands-on experience with percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting in a project-based or contract-driven environment
Strong understanding of revenue recognition principles under ASC 606
Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
Ability to collaborate and build relationships with cross-functional stakeholders
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office tools
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills
High attention to detail and organizational ability
Adaptability and willingness to drive continuous process improvements
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with ERP and financial systems such as SAP or similar platforms
Experience with financial close and reconciliation tools (e.g., Blackline or equivalent)
Additional exposure to POC accounting in complex project environments
