WHO WE ARE The German International School Washington D.C. is a leading international school in the Washington DC metro area. For over 60 years, GISW has been teaching children from preschool through twelfth grade. Aside from being the first MINT-EC certified school in the USA, GISW offers a U.S. High School Diploma as well as a German International Abitur (DIA) to its students.

The German International School Washington D.C. is seeking a Maintenance Technician for its bilingual Preschool to 12th grade school located in Potomac, MD. This position reports to the Facilities Manager.

GENERAL INFORMATION The Maintenance Technician is responsible for a variety of facilities, infrastructure, furniture assembly, equipment maintenance and repair tasks at the semi-skilled level.

This position interacts with faculty, staff and vendors. This position is full-time and non-exempt.

General working hours: Monday through Friday, 9am - 6pm with a one-hour lunch break

DESCRIPTION Perform basic handyman maintenance as needed for upkeep of the buildings, equipment and furnishings, including electrical, carpentry, drywall repair, painting and plumbing Moving, assembling and breaking down of furniture, shelves, cabinets, etc. Monthly routine preventative maintenance checks of all buildings and equipment, both indoors and outdoorsSecure each building and turn on its alarm Event/function set ups and take downs Assist with snow removal/salting and other weather-related concerns Driving errands and supply runs with school vehicle Additional duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS High school diploma, GED or equivalent strongly preferred Trade/Job related certifications highly preferred At least 2 years of experience in general maintenance work, HVAC experience a plus School or non-profit experience preferred Ability to use technical equipment, including email communication, Microsoft Teams and ticketing systems communicationAbility to start, stop and return to complete work as needed Driver’s license required, CDL a plus Flexibility and willingness to work evenings and Saturdays on occasion Excellent customer service skills Excellent communication skills Proficiency in English required, proficiency in German not required but is a plusPosition is subject to fingerprint based background check Authorized to work in the United States for any employer
