Landscape Technician
The Landscape Technician performs landscaping and grounds maintenance duties to ensure that Pender County Schools campuses are maintained in a safe, clean, and attractive condition. This position assists with mowing, trimming, planting, irrigation maintenance, and general upkeep of school grounds, athletic fields, and exterior areas.Qualifications
Licensing/Certification: Valid North Carolina Driver's License North Carolina Pesticide Applicator License preferred or ability to obtain within a specified time period Ability to operate district vehicles and landscaping equipment Education: Technical training or coursework in landscaping, horticulture, or turf management preferred High school diploma or equivalent required Experience: At least five (5) years of successful experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or related field preferred Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilitiesEssential Functions
Perform mowing, trimming, edging, and general grounds maintenance at school campuses and district facilities Maintain landscaped areas including planting, pruning, mulching, and watering plants and shrubs Assist with maintenance of athletic fields and playground areas Operate and maintain landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other grounds maintenance toolsApply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides in accordance with safety regulations and district procedures Remove debris, litter, and fallen branches from school grounds Assist with seasonal landscaping activities including planting and grounds preparation Identify and report grounds maintenance issues or safety concernsAssist with storm cleanup and emergency grounds maintenance as needed Maintain landscaping equipment and tools in safe operating condition Follow all district safety procedures and operational guidelines Physical Demands
The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and use hands and arms to perform landscaping duties. The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to operate landscaping equipment and tools and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity. Other required abilities include close vision, the ability to adjust visual focus, and the ability to talk and hear.Work Environment
The employee regularly works outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and humidity. The employee may be exposed to noise from landscaping equipment and machinery. The position may require travel between school sites and interaction with school staff and administrators. Salary Grade: 57 Terms of Employment: 12Months FLSA Status: Non-Exempt OSHA: The employee is not to handle any human body fluids, biological agents, laboratory chemicals, or be exposed to hazardous materials such as noise, asbestos, or carcinogens ADA: The employer will make reasonable accommodations to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 This job description will be reviewed periodically as duties and responsibilities change with business necessity.
