Description

The Irrigation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and monitoring of irrigation systems across the district’s campuses and athletic facilities. This role ensures that all turf, landscaped areas, and outdoor learning spaces receive proper water coverage to support safety, appearance, and operational standards.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair irrigation systems, including valves, controllers, sprinkler heads, drip lines, and piping.
  • Troubleshoot irrigation malfunctions and perform necessary diagnostics to restore proper function.
  • Adjust irrigation systems for seasonal changes, weather conditions, and water conservation requirements.
  • Monitor system performance and conduct routine preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and utility-locating devices associated with irrigation work.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, run times, and water usage as required by district policies.
  • Collaborate with Grounds staff to support landscape projects, athletic field preparation, and campus beautification efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with district safety protocols and local water-use regulations.
  • Respond to work orders in a timely manner and communicate status updates to supervisors and campus staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of irrigation system components, hydraulics, and electrical controllers.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve irrigation issues efficiently.
  • Skill in reading blueprints, schematics, and irrigation layout plans.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with Grounds teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate trenchers, pipe cutters, and related equipment safely.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in and around trenches, muddy areas, and uneven terrain.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of experience in irrigation installation or maintenance preferred. (school district or municipal experience preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Irrigation Technician License required
