Assists students with the financial aid process. Works to contribute to a team-centered environment promoting collaboration with Student Services team and effectively share financial aid related updates, providing assistance with financial aid questions. Responsible for awarding various types of Title IV aid; Veterans benefits; and tuition waivers. Maintains strict adherence to federal and state regulations regarding student aid including determination of initial and ongoing eligibility. Maintains strict confidentiality of personal and/or financial information of students. Some evening hours may be required.
DUTIES:
Assists and advises students with financial aid questions and provides assistance with resolving student financial aid issues. This includes students that walk in, telephone and email. Awards and processes Federal Title IV aid (Pell grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG)), Federal Direct Loans, and State of Michigan aid. Determines eligibility per U.S. Department of Education and State regulations. Knowledge of the various U.S. Department of Education and the State of Michigan electronic systems required.Assists students with knowledge of U.S. Department of Education regulations for receipt of Federal Direct Loans (including payback alternative; exit counseling). Interprets and applies federal and state regulations for awarding aid. Creates and writes reports and selection sets to ensure proper awarding and disbursing of aid. Also assists with data collection for required State and Federal reporting.Responsible for verification of student FAFSAs. This includes the responsibility of outside verifications of financial aid information to outside resources such as Michigan Works, Tribes, Outside Housing, etc. in which a student has signed a release. Knowledge of the financial aid software PowerFAIDs (PF) required along with familiarity of the interaction of PF with the College's Student Information System (Jenzabar).Assists and advises all incoming and existing Veteran's Administration (VA) eligible students. Knowledge of VA education programs required. Acts as the College's Certify Official with the VA using the VA-Once Computer System, including monthly enrollment tracking. Reviews disbursement reports for accuracy, corrects any errors, and authorizes disbursement transfer to the Business Office. Requests required disbursement funds from the U.S. Department of Education.Assists with determining innovative ways to improve the department's usage of PF, troubleshooting the PF system, and working collaboratively with the department to complete annual parameter roll for the new academic year. Creates, updates and maintains student financial aid files per U.S. Department of Education requirements, includes resolving duplicate student files, electronic filing of student documents, and other related tasks.Creates, updates and revises financial aid forms and letters periodically. Attend Financial Aid Nights at local high schools, College nights, orientation fairs, be available for potential office hours at other NCMC locations, and other educational programs for prospective students. Performs other related duties as assigned.Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's degree required with clerical experience Demonstrated critical thinking skills. Strong computer skills. Excellent customer service skills. PowerFAIDS and Jenzabar experience preferred. Veteran's training preferred Valid, unrestricted driver's license Preferred knowledge of Federal and State systems. For example: Common Origination and Disbursement (COD), Federal Aid Administrator Access to CPS online (FAA Access), and Michigan Scholarships and Grants (MiSSG).Preferred NASFAA Credentials in areas of job responsibilities.
