‘A taste like a ripe peach sprinkled with cinnamon and cloves, wrapped in caramel’ – this is how Gardener’s Path describes the taste of a ripe, soft, aromatic American Persimmon. The fruit ripens September onwards, growing sweet after first frosts. Not affected by freezes, persimmons can stay on the tree in winter. Trees may get tall (up to 35 feet) but most people quite easily keep them trimmed 14 to 17 feet for easier fruit harvesting. Plant 2 to 3 trees for cross-pollination. American Persimmon grows well in sun or shade, wet or dry conditions, even in clay soil. Its beautiful fall leaf color is a bonus. Diospyros virginiana “American’ USDA Zones 5 – 9 This is the ONLY Persimmon variety and size we have available at present.
