Description

We are hiring for a summer teaching veterinarian position, teaching small groups of high school students at locations across the US.
This position requires a DVM, but you do not need to be licensed to practice medicine in the program locations because you will not be practicing medicine.
(Please note: there are positions in different locations across the US, not just Washington DC. Applicants from anywhere are welcome to apply. Travel, housing, and meals are provided.)
Position Dates:
June 11 - August 8.
5-day paid break July *****.
Pay:
$8,000 plus: housing, meals, transportation between program sites.
Responsibilities
Take ownership of your group's morale, learning, health, and safety by following Loop Abroad's best practices and using your professional judgment when necessary
Supervise students in travel, animal care, lecture, lab, volunteer, and other student activities from their arrival to departure
Set clear expectations and daily schedules and communicate them to students
Follow risk management and safety rules
Follow syllabi, skills checklists, and plans for lectures and labs while keeping your eyes open for other learning opportunities that may arise
Coordinate among the host organizations, tour partners, and other staff to meet program goals
Prepare lecture slides and lesson plans ahead of time (if needed) and bring a personal laptop or tablet to use for presentations.
(Lectures, labs, and lessons are provided, but you will need to review the material and ensure you are familiar with it.)
Grade student assignments and exams and submit to Academic Director on time for students who enroll in university credit
Provide non-invasive veterinary care to animals when requested and authorized by host organizations
Arrange meaningful student orientation and farewell ceremonies based on provided templates
Report daily to in-country and international Loop Abroad Directors based on established procedures
Complete up to 10 hours of online training in advance of your arrival
Qualifications
• DVM (or equivalent degree from another country)
• Interested in teaching students and working with the next generation of vets
• Comfortable being with students 8+ hours per day, answering student questions
• Comfortable with communal living (solo rooms, but shared spaces)
• Flexible
• Enthusiastic
• Able to pass a criminal background check
• Eligible to legally work or volunteer in the United States
