About the Role
The Company is seeking an Associate General Counsel with a focus on export controls to join their team.
The successful candidate will be a senior legal subject matter expert in export controls, national security regulations, and cybersecurity requirements, particularly in the context of defense and advanced technology environments.
This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance across the full lifecycle of export-controlled activities, with a strong emphasis on ITAR, CMMC, and evolving DoD regulatory frameworks.
Key responsibilities include serving as the primary legal counsel on export controls matters, providing strategic guidance on cybersecurity and data protection, advising on compliance with DoD programs, and supporting export licensing strategy.
The role also involves drafting and negotiating agreements, leading the development of compliance procedures, and partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure adherence to export controls and cybersecurity requirements.
Applicants for this position at the company should have a Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school, a minimum of 10 years of experience in export controls, ITAR compliance, and defense-related regulatory environments, and a strong background in ITAR, including USML classification, licensing, and compliance program implementation.
Experience in advising on CMMC, NIST frameworks, or cybersecurity requirements tied to controlled technologies is also required.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing compliance issues, audits, investigations, and voluntary disclosures, as well as the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical business guidance.
Admission to at least one U.S. state bar in good standing is necessary, and experience with the Department of Defense or other national security agencies is preferred.
The role demands strong communication, analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a highly regulated and dynamic environment.
