Advertised Job Summary

The Law Enforcement Officer I/Public Safety Officer provides law enforcement, security, and protection for the University of South Carolina Community and property. These are certified police officers in accordance with SC Code of Laws 23-6-430, empowered with full arrest and police authority state wide. They enforce state laws and University rules and regulations.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

High school diploma. At least 21 years of age at hire.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

Preferred Qualifications

One year experience in public safety/law enforcement, a related field, or comparable educational experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Knowledge of proper law enforcement officer behavior and role. Knowledge of modern law enforcement techniques and procedures. Knowledge of how to collect and preserve evidence. Knowledge of the legal rights of both suspects and law enforcement personnel. Knowledge of the laws of South Carolina, and policies of the University. Knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of other law enforcement agencies. Skill in the operation of law enforcement vehicles, weapons, and communications equipment. Must be physically qualified and able to successfully pass a background investigation.

Patrols assigned area to prevent crime and detect violations of law and Policy / apprehends and arrests violators. Responds to complaints, reports of violations and requests for assistance. Keeps records and makes reports regarding all activities. Assists with crime prevention measures and programs. Conducts preliminary investigations

Starting Pay range based on certified police experience:

Depends on experience: $58,000 minimum(no experience)-$71,817
