Learn more about why you should join our team at General Responsibility Under the supervision of the Aviation Lieutenant or acting supervisor, operate as pilot in command (PIC) in all aircraft owned and operated by the Division. Flight operations include day and night visual meteorological conditions. Aircraft operations will primarily support the enforcement of the laws in South Carolina. Candidate for this position must be a certified law enforcement officer or be able to attend the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy to obtain certification.
Specific Duties
Adhere to FAA regulations as a pilot&maintain currency. Successfully train and pass any FAA flight evaluations, factory airframe&recurrency. Assist in aviation missions including, but not limited to: search and rescue, water delivery, aerial firefighting, surveillance, photo flights, fugitive searches, marijuana eradication, SWAT missions and aerial platform, etc. Flights will include day and night operations. Demonstrate appropriate knowledge of law enforcement procedures in support of local law enforcement operations. Perform duties under physical and mental stress. Communicate and work well with local, state, and federal agencies.Be clear and concise in oral and written communication. Demonstrate appropriate knowledge and expertise in aviation reports, SCEIS, P-card transactions and timesheets, etc. Perform various administrative tasks related to training, communications, special assignments, maintenance and other functional areas of law enforcement aviation.Perform various support tasks relating to aviation program and mission support. Support law enforcement program areas (e.g. Vice, Counter-Terrorism, Investigative Services) at SLED. Assist in the upkeep of equipment and workspace. Minimum and Additional Requirements
Must have a bachelor's degree or an acceptable equivalence (pilot certifications/ratings). Must possess an FAA Private Pilot certificate with rotorcraft (helicopter) rating. Must posses or have the ability to obtain Class I Law Enforcement certification through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.Must possess or be able to obtain a Class II medical certification. Must have the ability to adhere to FAA regulations. Must display sound decision making skill in high stress flight environments. Sound judgement must be exercised at all times. Must display a positive attitude and the ability to work well within a team environment.Routine, non-standard working hours will be required. Must be able to deal with non-routine situations in a logical and professional manner. Must live within a 30-mile radius of SLED Headquarters located at 4400 Broad River Road.
