Description:
Adjuncts are part-time faculty positions at less than 50% FTE. They are appointed on a semester-by-semester basis. These appointments correlate to an average of 8 hours per week per class.
The Department of Criminal Justice and Social Work of the University of Houston Downtown seeks Criminal Justice adjunct faculty to teach undergraduates in the applicant's area of expertise.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
A Master's Degree, and a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Criminal Justice or Criminology course work, OR a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree Preferred Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or Criminology
Due to subject-matter credentialing, initial preference will go to candidates with a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or Criminology for all criminal justice courses.
Secondarily, those with a Master's Degree and a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Criminal Justice or Criminology coursework will receive preference.
Finally, applicants with a J.D. but who do not possess either 1) a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice or Criminology or 2) a Master's Degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Criminal Justice or Criminology, may be hired. J.D. only applicants will need to be credentialed as an exceptional case, and the hiring manager will ask such a candidate to provide additional evidence of "substantial accomplishments in the field" or "significant professional experience."
To be considered as a candidate for this position, an applicant must provide an application, cover letter, curriculum vitae, unofficial transcripts, and a list of up to five (5) courses in the UHD undergraduate curricula that the candidate is qualified to teach based upon documented academic and professional credentials.
Before UHD makes an official hire, the hiring manager may also ask the candidate to provide two (2) letters of reference and agree to an interview via Zoom.
